![]() Ive read alot of the posts in the forum and lantis's project and saw that some have increased their timing by upto 6 degress. Not being much of a car mechanic, is this hard to do and are there any drawbacks from increasing the timing (or should I ask the bloke who services my car to do it). I know you have to run premium if you do it (what happens if you run normal unleaded) but the price of premium is pretty good atm so if I can get more gutts out of the NA motor it would be good. Thoughts/Comments Cheers.()

![]() also increase the chances on ping (pre ignition). To counteract this you run higher octane fuel. I wouldnt go more than 14deg to allow for fluctations in fuel quality. Advancing the timing plus a new cat back exhaust and a K&N panel or pod filter will make the car noticeably more nippy. Regards Mal()

![]() I like the dual tips u have mal, but I believe this requires 2 mufflers? (correct me if im wrong). I also seem to get a large amount of carbon residue in the muffler tip. Is this due to the engine burning oil or simply normal residue? Is advancing the ignition timing somthing I can do easily or should I take it to the mechanic and tell him to do it?()

![]() the exhaust feeds into a centre chamber and can then go out in two directions out the back. Mick got one last month he can tell you a price. Regards Mal()

![]() done by A&P in Kirrawee but seeing you go to the gong a lot Micks contact may be a good bloke to see. See if we can drum up some business for him and see if he gives us some discounts. The black on the tips is fuel, happens mate and is worse with the turbo with a vent to air BOV. All Astina's do it. Regards Mal()

![]() I would assume it will cost somthing similar to get a new muffler and 2 tips? Is there any way to clean that crap off the muffler, I think ive let this one go to far (damn male laziness) but I dont want to fork out nearly a $1K and have the tips go all crap on me.()

![]() I already have stainless from cat back but I havent got a high-flow cat. I was looking at just replacing the muffler and getting 2 new tips. Might throw a high flow cat in if its worth it.()
