Alpine HU Help!

I got a new HU today.
When pulling out the old Sony to put it in i was hoping it would bt a simple unplug the old, plug in the new... Not the case i found out pretty much right away

There is all new looms and stuff - my question...
How do i re-loom it all? I dont wanna pay $90 bucks for someone else to do it.
Do i have to go right back to the battery and that and start again?
this is what i found...

Also, is it safe to drive around with no HU attached and lose wires? or should i connect the old one back up until i am ready to go balls out and do it?
BTW, the HU i got is an Alpine CDE9873RB
PLEASE HELP - I WANNA GET IT IN ASAP WITHOUT F*CKING ANYTHING.

by the question you just asked, i'm assuming you do not know much about ICE. so i'd just pay someone $90 to do it for you. that way you'll still have a car with all its fuses and running. and save you hair pulling out episodes.

alpine have a ford/mazda direct swap loom available for BJ/BJ2/KN/KQ models. but only if the original loom is still intact.

I was just keen to do it all myself... and try and learn.
Should i connect everything back up?

actually, the white egg box looking things are wire connectors. all you need to do is unscrew each 1 seperately, one at a time only, and insert the new wire from the new loom. the screw up tight again.

see how there is white/red/green/purple/plus more coloured wires. they are do something. if you have the manual for the old HU, then it'll tell you what each coloured wire does.

then match it up with new HU loom... ie:- white wire is left speaker positive (+), then replace with whatever the same is on the new loom. power 9(red), acc (yellow), ground (black), tigger (blue), etc until all done.

colours may be different from each HU.

OK, this is what threw me...
The new wires do not have the white plastic ends to them - they have 2 black rectangle ones, i just am unsure how to hook these up and they dont seem to house any screws or screw holes.
The black things are just odd... i will go downstairs and get a pic.

if your headeck came with a manual you should just be able to wire in the Alpine harness to the original car harness that looks like its still intact...just find 12v constant, 12v ign and so on....but you need a test light...

I think i might call my mate and see what he's up to.
I just was so keen to try and do it myself, now i'm worries ive stuffed something already.

find you car manual, then you can see which 2 wires are for what speakers...then using that attach them to the corresponding wires on the alpine set (front left, front right etc).

Along with that, as zappy said, you will need to find the 12v constant and etc, find the manual for the old sony unit, figure out which ones they were and again, attach them to the alpine set.

and i had a search on the net, now i think this is how your wires are set out.

Red = Ignition (12v Source)
Yellow = Battery (Constant Power)
Black = Ground (goes between a bolt and the chassis)
Gray (+) Gray/Black (-) = Front Right
Violet (+) Violet/Black (-) = Rear Right
Green (+) Green/Black (-) = Rear Left
White (+) White/Black (-) = Front Left
Blue Wire = Power Antenna (if its just a manual pull up one, this stays disconneted)
Blue/White = Remote Turn On (for amps etc)

I have done this a few times, once in the astina, once in a 'rolla and once in a civic. each time u just used the cut twist and tape method and all worked 100% besides the 'rolla which had some kinda code.

Thats the stock wiring, not sure if i used this one or not for the astina. Just a matter of matching colours. It is pretty easy to do just some patience and fiddling around.

Worst comes to worst you can get it installed professionally. Thats how i got my current JVC DVD unit when i got my whole sound system installed.

So i can just rip out the wires of the new black box thingys one at a time and screw them into the white egg things?
I think i will go and talk to the place i got it from tomorrow and get it all sussed out.

Yeah, it should work fine if you do it that way. Just make sure you rip em out of the right end! Don't pull em out and realise that you just pulled it out of the end that goes into the unit!

If you are worried, then best to suss it out with the guys you got it from...but you will learn alot from doing it yourself.

you can disconnet it

hahah best bet for this i say...just so you make sure nothing happens to start with if you make a boo boo!!! haha i love welding in my car with my stereo wires

disconnect just the neg will be fine

Your alarm should have a key in the siren to switch it to silent. Disconnecting the battery would set it off otherwise
