Consequences of buying cars without checking properly
I guess I'll just share my experience here to help people as dumb as me in the future...
First car bought off my brother's friend A.K.A Mr. A(Nissan Pulsar N14 LX) for 1100 and Paid 500... Owing 600 First time buying a car so Mr. A told me there are two things that I need to do: Firstly, get the RWC by myself Secondly, pay the transfer fees... Note: Transfer fees <<< Means it is currently under rego (He even gave me the Rego sticker which he never use it before) It is normal for people to think that it is currently under rego... I never had any idea on how much the RWC will cost me, I thought it is just a paper to say that the vehicle is safe to drive... Spent $700 and got the RWC (Quite satisfied) So a week has passed since I bought the car and got the RWC, went to vicroad on the same day I got my RWC to transfer the vehicle into my name. Surprised!!! The vehicle is currently UNREGISTERED... Mr. A went overseas and will be back in one month... Obviously I cant wait that long so I spend another 700 in registering the car and got myself a 1 year registration... Sold it off for 1800 and I'm losing 100... One month has passed which is today, Mr. A told me that the car is actually sold not including rego... WHAT THE FK? Meaning I need to pay that 600 owed now... Second car bought off an a55hole named Johnny living in werribee... Agreed price without RWC 4500(according to him changing tyres are the only things needed to get RWC) Paid 4300, Bank error and I was thinking to let go of the car although I really liked it... He said that I can be trusted and write me a receipt paid 4300 owing 200... Since he offer me this, so I accepted it... Went back home, got the car checked and another SURPRISED!!! 2000 for RWC NOT including tyres... Call him up, he said he could write off the 200 owed if I get someone fix it... I still keep his messages which said 200 can be forgot if I get it fixed... Fixed everything except tyres, sold it off to someone named William the B4stard... Call Johnny up and ask him to talk the William about the transfer of ownership and he agreed... At that moment, I think Johnny is not really an a55hole... So William ask for any receipt that can prove I bought the car? I said yes and I gave him one of the receipt... (Have 1 receipt and a signed paper) 3 days passed... Johnny called up and ask me to pay the fking 200... I refused and he said he is going to cancel the rego... (None of my business since I sold off the car) William called me up after Johnny and we talked (he refused to give me back the receipt unless he get the vehicle transfered in his name) Since I don't want to make things worst, I agreed to pay the 200 and ask Johnny to send me his bank account... He said yes but he didnt... How the fk am I going to pay... By the way, Johnny likes to promise things (saying I'll do this first thing in the morning, I'll do that first thing in the morning and goes POOF... Gone...) My current situation: Owing 600 to Mr. A and a middle man between Johnny and William... |

So the moral of the story is:- Do not buy a car without a RWC supplied.

I 2nd this absolutely. There are never bargains when buying a 2nd hand car. A good deal? Perhaps. People lie then, when confronted, make excuses that they didn't know anything was wrong with the car Alot of people are using stop leak. CHECK FOR CHEMICAL SPILL RUNNING DOWN BLOCK FROM HEAD/S
Unfortunately. Alot of the time we learn only from our mistakes!

Went to vicroad and called the police.. Vicroad asked me to go to the police and the police point me to a solicitor... For the 200, I won't want to get a solicitor... It is too much trouble for the 200... If I were that guy, I would have easily forget about the 200 cause Im not an a$$hole... Anyway, Im gonna tell him that Im not gonna pay but I feel bad for the rego guy...

Sorry to further this thread but somethings doing my head in big time........been up early with insomnia burnin' back of my eye sockets
miah! When you bought the Pulsar off your brothers friend. Did you check date on rego sticker? How could it be listed as unregistered @ VicRoads if you had in your possession the paid sticker? Was it an out-dated sticker he gave you perhaps? I know you realise this now but when someone states you must get a RW. They mean you get the car repaired @ your expense & this an unknown cost! Then & only then is it possible to get the RWC! So nothing untoward went on with the original agreement concerning the RW bit. However. If he stated it was currently registered then this is his bad & perhaps he should meet you a little more half-way with the $600 owing him. I don't go for people who talk in circles. Say it as it is people! Anyway. In the end. You still have to sort this out correct? Or am I missing something here It's cool that you admitted you were a doofus lol You should never accept some wank telling you "oh, all the car needs is rear tyres & a parker bulb etc etc bla bla" ......er, how do they know what else it needs. Have they special psychic (psycho more like it ) powers? I will admit that I was fully bullshatted to from seller of the Merc I bought recently. Even though I know cars pretty well & can talk the talk with the best (or worst hehe). Can tell others what to look for & what to stay away from. I still am drawn towards something different. Something difficult. Something John Smith doesn't have next door or even up the street for that matter. My first car when I was 18 was a FULLY sic R/T Charger which had had it's engine pulled down & FULLY rebuilt to accommodate a Garrett T03. Small turbo for these days but that's what it had. Super quick response but ran outta fuel @ about 4500rpm This was a time when turbos were'nt seen often on the streets & pretty much little known concerning them. It was the V8 era that ruled the streets. Everything else was crap! Moral of this story: If we aren't rational & sensible when deciding to buy a car & fall for that 1 car that stands out from the crowd. Allowing the excitement to overshadow common sense just because we WANT IT. PERIOD! Then, we have to accept the responsibility for our silly actions. Pls let me get this lil' admission off my chest! I believed this bars-tard because he claimed to have receipts & I could see the car looked smick & had alot of time & money spent on it. Obviously. Problem was. It was along time ago & the car had been abused & neglected for so long that it no longer could be patched up. Even though the car is in excellent condition body wise & interior. Mechanically I have seen better dragged out of a friggin river Now I have to decide the fate of it. Work out the best thing to do with very little options really. Yes I will finish with a machine I will be proud to own & drive & probably have great respect for (one friggin day ). But for now.....I have to wear the doofus crown here @ AGT The little 323GT will be my solice here I think. At least for the next little while lololol If we research before buying our new friend. We will @ least know what the going deal is with them @ this point in time & hopefully avid being farked over by some ****-head

How did he pay $700 for a RWC!?
Is that how much he was charged, or was that the total of repairs of the vehicle included because he didn't get a RWC because of some faults on the car?

AH the sillyness of it all.
This ins one reason why NSW has it all over the other states. Compulsary Pink-slip/RWC every year. It means for those in other states - You technically have to sell a car with current RWC when it's coming up to it's Rego date with in 3 months. But most don't because If you sell any car even dealer won't give you a current RWC because it's part of the registration. Part of getitng your car registered is to have it done every year -unless your car is under 5 years old. As for buying cars and selling them etc or even just buying 2nd hand cars. I've worked at yard and I've bought for a yard. To be ohnest I knew people in the back were not ohnest I just sold the cars. To me everyone makes mistakes - you just have to learn but if you don't your a real bloody idiot. We all like handshake deals and feel it's the Australian thing to do. But REAL world. Evidience is your friend. I've bought 7 or so cars from Victoria in my lifetime - only 2 had no RWC but both had registration. Even so I never drove them back I had them shipperd, one of them a 1977 Torana HX I think with 4.2L and 4 speed. I had a look paid the $2300. When I got a decent look at it I was glad I didnt' drive it back. left front caliper - seized yeah it stopped not great but on long drive would of been a disastter. Rear wheel cylinders didn't realise on test drive but must of been afterwards leaking like a open pipe line. In fact when it came off the truck the Master was already at min. none of this in the long term bothered me as it was abotu a good body and V8. Went on to sell it for $3600. With vic redgo didn't swap into NSW but did providea $60 bluse slip - only cost $200 in parts plus mics. We proberly all have been had by a car or seller of things we don't know it's almost a given with any 2nd hand car. but if you want to add something ot it. If it's too good to be true - it usually is. |
