in car monitor q's (antenna hook up)(securing unit)

hey
guys i just installed a single din fold out monitor that i bought, and it came witha tv tuner that im supposed to connect my aerial to, but after looking in tnadys and dick smiths for connections im unsure how to do it..
i think i need to connect the antenna plug to a three way adaptor and then one plug would go to the cd player (radio0 and the other to the monitor tv converter (tv channels) can any one help me? i spoke to a guy in one shop but he didnt help at all, he tried to make me buy stuff that was completely irrelevent...

and my other question is how can i secure the unit it in? i am unsure how once it in, to make it more firmely held in...
any help would be appreciated.
thanks guys.

i got no idea about the antenna dude, cus i got the same prob n still havent figured it out, but did the monitor come with a sleeve? if it did then play with it until its tightly in the sleeve while it isnt instaled and secure the sleeve in by bending the tags. if it didnt come with the sleeve then you can obtain one from places like autobarn. just go to the rear counter where they do installs n they should help u out 4 $15-$20, thats providing you are instaling it in the din in the dashboard where a cdplay is meant to go right??

so if i put the empty sleve in first and pry the tabs out to secure it, then i secure the unit into that?
the antenna box is confusing because i just tried to put the antenna straight into the box and it wouldnt even connect into it. the box seems to be only big enough for a headphone jack...

ill post up pics soon if theyre needed.

ooh u need to get the car tv antena then. i got one of those, the reception is **** cus the antena is big and cumbersome so i hid it in my dashboard. the plug is a 3.5mm like a headphone but i think its got either three sections or just one, rather than ttwo like a headphone. you can pick them up from dicksmith, tv antenna with a 3.5mm jack. that should do. what i mean by the sleeve, if you have one, is to make sure that its tight on the screen, before you put the screen or the sleeve in, then when its tight, take it off and put the sleeve in n secure with the tags. but make sure that you have a way of removing it cue if you dont, once its in getting it out wont b pretty, at all, iv been down that rd b4. oh and as for the antenna if they dont have it at dicksmith, which o doubt, try jaycar, and if allelse fails ebay has everything u need.

oh and you can get one of the antennas that sticks to the windsheild or rear window. it looks like a heating element, but it works very good. only problem is i only saw them on ebay.

there called a diversity antenna ...what they are is 2 or 3 antennas in one...couple for the window and a on glass like a phone antenna....and they hook up to a central box and when your driving it selects the antenna with the strongest signal

id prob only use the antenna when its stationary. not moving.
so i secure the sleeve to the monitor, then remove it, secure it into the dashboard and then secure the sleeve to the monitor?
how exactly will i secure it? just pull all the little tabs out?
thanks for all your help!

well esentially yea. as it slides in and out of the sleeve make sure its tight. and secure with tabs to the dash. as myn didnt come with a sleeve but i had to use a unifit one myn can b pulled out without too much hassle, or a great relyance on keys, but its still in firm engough that it will not just fall out while driving. oh and aboutthe antenna if it came with one u can use it but place it in a good place. also you can buy boosters, i forgot to mention. there are some antenas with boosters on ebay for like $30, im gettin one of those too.

problems guys.
the instructions for the antenna are crap.
its all translated, and doenst make much sense.
does anone know what the second wire does?
the antenna goes into two wires. one is a jack lead (for the tuner) and the other is an insulated cable...
if i connect it to power the antenna light turns on, but the wire gets hot, and melts (and nearly burnt a hole in my carpet....) what is it suppost to go too?
ill try to find a pic.

no idea on that mate, mine only has the mini jack plug input. i'd say what the other does is detect incoming signal, thats why the light goes one when you hook it up to power. its probably incase the arial doesnt have a plug but just the bare wires

yeah it is but it may be the aerial, i have a brand new car aerial (came with my screen) sitting in the box downstairs because it didnt do squat. i'm looking for a better one with a signal amplifier.

could you scan the instructions and put it up someone might be able to make sense of it. my guess is that its either a power wire, in which case you should put a fuse, and connect it to the ACC conection that is on the back of your HU, or its a turn on/trip wire in which case it should go to the same place that the amp is plugged in to (remote i think its called) thing is if its just a trip wire than my guess is you probably fried it conecting to the power, but if it has a +ve and -ve than its more than likely for power. either way a scan would help heaps XD
