some need power wires. my panasonic needs the 9 pin cable plus an rca cable . so that just 2 wires in total and plug in rather than cutting and striping etc...
my old changer just needed the 9 pin cable though.
you usually just need to fix them through the carpet with the fittings supplied. so no need for drilling and that. plus you could have a pretty boring looking head unit if you want .
