Front End Knock
Hi all.....newbie here ..... I have a 95 BA Hatch that has developed a front end knock. The knock only happens when the car is shifting weight from left to right during cornering. I have gotten underneath and checked the lower arms and steering, nothing appears to be loose. I replaced both ball joints, struts and springs less than 6 months ago. Just wondering if any of you have had any similar experiences or could offer some advice?

Thanks all, problem solved. Broken sway bar end link on the left hand side causing the sway bar to slap the lower arm

Found my problem. The front right spring in my coilover did not have full capture. When the car was on stands, there was a 2mm gap between the top of the spring and the mounting perch. And you could wriggle the top of the spring side to side by 2mm also.
Grrr!!! Did a measure between the 2 front side. The loose spring side had the spring perch/foot 2mm lower than the other side. So I'm raising the spring foot 3mm to see if it fixes the problem. But I will have to do a run around on all four corners to do a visual/mechanical inspection to see if all the others are fine. I never checked the spring feet when I installed the coilovers, as you only adjust them at the hub knuckle. And instructed not to touch the spring feet. lol |
