Drag Racing Wheels

well i've been looking and looking for 15x7 wheels for drag racing.

to fit over my brakes i found that the pre-au falcon wheels fit (they are +6 offset), but that means they stick outside the guard a heap. no problem for drag racing, just ugly. anyway, the roh and speedy wheels available for the pre-au falcons weigh 9-9.5kg's each.

well saturday i thought i might try and find some other wheels. i go to a 2nd hand wheel place that imports used wheels from japan and i found a nice pair.

they are 15x7.5 with +43 offset....fit over the brakes perfectly and look great. now here's the great part. they weigh.....4.7kg each! talk about rotational weight savings!!!!! the wheel? volk te-37 (droooooool) in bronze (mega droooooool)

price for the pair - $480

how much does that weight saving equate to? well in first gear, it's the equivelant of removing something like 230kg from the car! 2nd gear that goes down to 100kg, but still that's a pretty decent performance increase! add to that mix DOT approved drag slicks and i should easily get under a 2 second 60ft time which is awesome for a fwd

coz drag racing tyres are very very different to circuit tyres.

drag racing tyres have soft sidewalls to get that slingshot take off and get up to heat very quickly and can handle many heat cycles.

circuit tyres have stiff sidewalls for better handling and dont like going through many heat cycles and will wear in no time.

basically i'd have these wheels for drag racing with drag slicks and then get another set of 4 wheels with circuit slicks

have a look at http://www.option1garage.com.au/xxwheels.htm

however, not all the wheels there are for sale still - they almost never update that page.

And that's not including the 8 rally tyres and rims already packed away for next weekends Queensland Rally Championship.... that's why there's a gap on the middle shelf.... so add 8 tyres already on the cars, and there's a bit of rubber going around....

hey that's really funny.. the two brand new rally tyres (middle shelf), and 4 new circuit slicks (bottom shelf) are all in the shade... freaky....
