Break piston halp.

Im having trouble resetting the piston in the caliper so that the pads fit back into and can sit around the rotor. Is there a release valve ( in the picture ?? ) that i need to undo so that I can clamp the piston and push it back flush?

Thanks,
Pat.

I think I foundwhat you are talking about. When I take screw out it looks like a small oily shaft with some sort of thing at the bottom, is this the allan grub? And if so how do I manipulate it ?

Sorry,
Pat.

nah if your going by the photo thats not it. if you put the caliper up as if its sitting on the car its facing towards the car, its on the face of the caliper roughly inline with the piston. when you take that bolt out there is a allan keyed grub inside, just use a allan key or a flat screwdriver that has same width

bah technicalities..
to be perfectly honest patax its been a while since i touched my brakes, so i dont exactly remember how they look like when the sit on the car (from the back i mean lol)
the hole you found, clean it out with like a cotton bud or something and have a better look. if you can se the ALLEN key female bit, then yeah thats it. all you do is screw it out and it will screw out the piston. this is the rear break adjustment

It's on the back inline with the centre of the piston.
The bolt needs a 14mm spanner.

Once you have the new pads in you need to wind the Allen key back in until the pads just kiss the rotor.

Oh yeah brake not break, just to be a pest

Pull the little plastic hat off and use a 10mm spanner (socket prefered) and you can pull out one of the sildie things that mounts the caliper. Now you can easily flip the caliper down/up (can't remember) to easily change the pads.
[/double entendre]

If anyone can edit and circle the photo I poseted up to point specificly that would be good. What the picture is, is of the BACK of the caliper, what sits FACING the car, so those two bolts you see ( most obvious ones ) the one on the right is the one with the small oily shaft in it, which sits at the ' base ' of the piston.

Use allen key to wind piston back ( the one at the base of the piston) one 14 mm bolt hold the handbrake cable bracket the other is the caliper adjuster. When piston is wound fully back into the caliper install pads and caliper back into position the wind out the piston till it locks the disc on ( make sure the disc is sitting flush on the hub) then lossen off the adjuster one third of a turn -- then adjust your handbrake to 4-5 clicks. ** Back handbrake off before adjusting caliper-- 10mm bolt inside car next to handbrake lever.

Just beat me to it lol
