I'd be complaining to the place that you got them, and asking them to redo it in high temperature paint if it isn't already.

you'll need special high temp paint for them. not just the normal stuff for brake calipers etc but exhaust paint. better option is ceramic coating

Paint on mild steel extractors is to keep them in tip-top condition whilst they are in storage. Once they are on a car it's no longer needed.

that is correct.

You need them to be coated with a special coating or even metal spray.
But it's costly and overall does F-N all to any performance gain. If there is a gain 20KG's OF Coke in the boot will dystroy it.

Cheapest option is if you want to keep it clean is to paint it with a VHT - Flame proof extractor type paint. This does last a fair bit but it too will eventually fail. Does okay on mild steel alot better then cast iron. Preperation is the key. and light coats dryed fro 2 hours in between do best.

Steel needs moisture to rust. At the temperature your headers will reach moisture isn't a problem. There may be a little bit of surface rust but nothing that will cause a problem.

I've never had paint on mine to my knowledge, and there's just a little bit of brown on the surface. As far as I know the whole exhaust system was put on in 2000, so this is the effect of eight years:

The idea of paint peeling off didn't appeal, but no, it won't make a difference except to their looks.

Cosmo dude tha't wright an wrong.
Yeah they need mositure but reason it will gain onyl surface rust is the heat stops the rust or Corrosion going deeper.

in fact it will corrode quicker from the inside out then outside in. Just due to the chemical in the exhaust system.
Reason factoy manifodl is thick cast iron - or Hi end stianelss in hi end cars

The outside surface rust is moslty due to temerature change. It actually attracts moisture due to changes in temerature.

but as said it's nothing to worry about.

Yes alot of people do paint or coat them because it does look alot nicer.

Ive done alot of Pacemaker and Genie extractors over my time moslty on six's and 8's but. the factory coating on most of them is still reasonable. but alot of people may not like the fade and pale look.

i got the same extractors and the paint peeled in some places on mine too
its cuz they put the extractors on when the paint wasnt completely dry yet. i told them about it but they said its normal though i dont believe them. but no point arguing over some flaked paint
