hey man,

so whats in the white car??? a bpt setup?? can you post up some photos of the engine bay, what ecu is it using??

the series 3 stuff isnt that hard. best thing would to swap over the hole loom. dash and all. unless u want to rewire it. that would be to hard if you know what your doing (not saying you dont mate)

Yeah the White one is a BPT with a BG BPT loom and a jap spec ECU

Will get some photos today

Easy question, but why not just use the BA ECU for the interior and just put the BG loom for the jap ecu

what you need to do if figure out how its wired up. if they have put a BG BPT loom over the top of the BA loom then go thru and write down what the wires car conected to in that shell. i doubt that the original ecu will be left in there.. did/does the tacho work in the white car??

does it start and run yet???

honestly it wont be to hard to just pull the loom out of the white car and put it into the red car you just need to lable and mark all the wireing before you remove it from the white car so you know where i goes on the red car.

Nah needs timing belt and intercooler piping, he hasn't started it since the rebuild

Plan on keeping the motor in the white one and get it started and make sure it doesn't have any major problems before pulling it back out

What on the engine loom has to go to the BA ECU

aaa kk so if it was working before hand then it SHOULD be ok now..

NOTHING WILL GO TO THE BA ECU, the ba ecu will not control anything.

pull the dash apart and find out if there is a bpt ecu in there and take some photos of the engine loom and post them up here.

the s3 ba controls the regulator on the alternator so you will have to rewire that section but if you have watch might car mods and there gramps season/playlist they show you how to wire one up. you just need to know what wire on the alternator does what. there will be two. 1-light 2-signal. light goes to your charge light on the dash. that can get wired up easy enough. 2 is just a switch voltage. it turns on the regulator inside the alternator. on the ba s3 alternator it doesnt have an inbuilt reg because the ecu controls it.

so fiddled with it today for a little bit, mostly spent time trying to figure out intercooler piping with the pipes left in the car, need new stuff

as per the below pics, there isnt a BA ECU in there and no sign of the interior plug
i think the existing loom/s were removed and just the BPT loom was put in as it doesnt look like any wires have been cut and joined

soo... in theory i could just use the BPT engine loom and JAP ECU, while leaving the BA ECU to do the interior and alternator [the ba one does the tacho as well dont it]

no the ba ecu wont work unless its seeing signal from the motor. the signal will be going to the bpt ecu. and you cant share the signal ether.. honestly its not hard to rewire the bpt ecu to work with a ba. it looks like the bpt ecu has been wire in by those photos you have uploaded. please can you pull the loom out where its plugged into the ecu. there will be two yellow plugs going to the ecu, and there should be a black and white plug. those are the interior loom plugs. and there will be a yellow plug with a relay on it.. that is the fuel pump plug. they look like this.

see if u can find those plugs. if you cant and the wires are cut and wired into the harness then someone has rewire the harness to fit the ba and all we can do is cross your fingers and hope for the best. the bpt ecu will go tacho and ac idle up, fans the lot. just not the altornator voltage control..

also do you have the bpt vaf?? i cant see the sticker on the ecu so i have no idea if it is a aussie ecu or jap ecu. the difference between the two is the jap ecu gives you about 10/15 hp and more agressive timing.

hmm looked and couldnt find the plugs except the two for the ECU, some wires are joined into a couple of plugs in the back [took a photo for ya], no relay either

how different is the wiring in a series 3 compared to a series 1

Firstly. Get it started running and working 100%. Then transfer all wiring over. It'll be alot easier
