So most of us will receive $950 from the rudd government...

So who's spending that money on modding there rides?

If anyone hasnt seen the news, have a look at these sites:

http://ato.gov.au/corporate/content....t/00179313.htm

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...54-952,00.html

So the question is asked, would you spend the money, or save it for a rainy day??

Cheers
Marc

I will already be overseas when this arrives. I guess it means that I can have a bit more fun while Im away - which will do nothing for the Aussie economy lol

If you recieved you tax back via direct deposit from doing your 07/08 tax, thats how it'll be distributed, if you received a cheque, you'll receive a cheque

Just remember, the notice will be sent to the address you put on to receive your notice of assesment back after your tax was done

This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

"Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
"A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

"Q. Where will the government get this money?
"A. From taxpayers.

"Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
"A. No, they are borrowing it from China. Your children are expected to repay the Chinese.

"Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
"A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

"Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
"A. Shut up."

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help our economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at K-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on petrol it will go to the Arabs and Al Queda

If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, Chile, and Guatemala.

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea.

If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India

If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria.

And none of it will help the Australian economy.

We need to keep that money here in Australia. You can keep the money I Australia by spending it at garage sales, going to the footy, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in Australia.

yes the Rudd Government got a bit ahead of themselves this time, announcing it before it was approved by Senate !

I suppose its a clever ( sneaky? ) way of putting pressure on the upper house for it to be passed through.

Although I wouldn't say no to the money, I'm not convinced that the government is looking after the finances very well.
Giving $$ to people makes them happier and the govnmt's popularity increases, but its a fair guess that as we buy foreign products, a lot of that money will leak out to foreign companies.

I think we'll see a heavily modified version of the package before its approved. Followed by the government blaming the opposition for stuffing it up

this package will do nothing for the chinese economy. AU$42 billion isn't much when you consider the chinese economy was around US$4.2 trillion (australia: US$774 billion) last year. you'd need to throw several hundred billion dollars at it just to make a slight difference. as far as china's economy is concerned, we're just along for the ride

i think they need to re-evalute the way they're giving people their money.
its not good for our economy to have it spend on consumer goods (most of which will be foriegn made) and run a big budget deficit at the same time.

that said i won't say no to $950

I won't say no to the money (although they'll probably find some way not to give me any). But it's bread and circuses for the masses to distract us from something else they don't want us to see.
