Crows Feet in Paint
Hey all
I've bought a mothers auto polisher as the paint on my BG was starting to look a bit tired. Polished it and followed instructions etc. 90% of the car has come up well but the bonnet now has crows feet ALL over it. I suspect that the car has been in some sort of prang in the front and that the bonnet and front has been resprayed. Is there any way to get rid of the crows feet, like doing a cut and polish on it or will it be beyond repair and a paint job will have to be the fix??? Thanks Womble |

Strip back to metal and respray.
Probably more to do with the big hot noisy thing under it than accident damage

i have the same problem after polishing once, you can only strip and respray as cosmo said - and yes its been in a accident and been sprayed with an acrilic paid which is wrong for bonnets as heat kills the paint.

dont let anyone tell you they can just give it a rub back an repaint it, cause the crows feet will come back through the new paint , as rod has said strip back to bare metal is the only way
as for polishing no you cant get rid of them its mainly clear coat paints that has this problem an it heat an age to the paint that causes this problem

crows feet are small cracks all through you paint, it kind of looks like a shattered window kind of pattern all over your paint but the cracks are all in Y kind of shapes.

This is an example of extreem crowsfeet.
Can be caused by heat, paint applied too thickly, bad brep work etc.... The cracks go most of the way through the paint which is why it has to be a bare metal respray. I'd be tempted to take the car to someone who specialises in restoration work not accedent repairs.
