SIlversp20's XR5 Mondeo

Hey guys just thought Id post up some pics of our new Family car.

I will get some interior shots and some driving Video if I can soon with a better camera.
No mods planed just yet. Maybe a Bluefin to give the car some extra boost in power.
Enjoy

But the SP handles a hellova lot better.

Nice car dude.
Shame Ford didn't put it on some kind of diet before they made it.
So a SP20 with a decent amount of power added would be as good as the Mondeo???

In some way yes. but it would need at least a 50% jump in power. only way for that is transplant engine or turbo build both pretty costly when done properly.
Mondeo has alot of cool gimiky features too . boot is massive and having a hatch helps alot.
Focus XR5 would be a better option if you don't have kids like I do but it just didn't have the room that we need.
Still very happy though.
Some suspension mods and this thing will be on par with the SP I think.

I was expecting a car this new and of its type to out handle the SP20 by a long way!!
Mazda must have done well designing the BJ.

Sorry should have said MY Sp20. Lowered and stiffer springs, lighter etc. But yes Mazda did a good Job to start with.
The mondeo may handle a bit better than I am able to drive it at the moment as I have only owned it for 2 weeks. I Haven't pushed it to its handling limits yet, not game enough yet, so this is just my opinion.
Cheers

Hmm, Idk if it appeals to me. It's just too tacky with those painted silver bits in a years time...the seats look good though!

There are guys that have changed the console to carbon fiber look like the SP20.

its not too bad to live with day to day but sometimes when the sun hits it it reflects and that is annoying.

I was intending to get the aqua blue version brand new in 2008, but then drove the RS Octavia.....I liked the look of them, but the handling lets them down in Oz, much better O/S. We were also selling the SE20 so what we got I wanted to perform better. RS got the job done and then some.

The RS is such a sleeper too, and it doesn't have the VW price to go with it.

I'm a pretty sedate driver and the RS has a rumble but its sedate when cruising, but makes a bit of noise when you floor it. I don't do traffic light racing, but just taking off surprises people....the real WTF just happened is on the freeway entrance ramps as I love them and the other person probably wonders where that funny looking car just went...

I'd imagine it would sound much like the gti does? Did you get the DSG or the real man's gearbox?

No DSG, I want the gearbox to still be working after the warranty expires...

bit of an update for all you fans of the XR5s
Purchased and installed -
K&N panel filter and a JWR stage 1 tune
Tune increases @wheel kws from 135ish to 165 ish
bigger impression for me was the torque increase which was 320 @fw now is aprox 500 at fw and 440 ish at wheels

This is all on standard equipment except for the K&N filter.

http://j-w-racing.co.uk/product.php/...deo_2_5t___xr5

I'm getting it dyno'd at the end of the month at the XR5OC dyno day.
It will be interesting what it actually puts down. even if it is less than what I think it still feels alot better to drive
Cheer

Short update.

Mondy now has 8xxxx klms on it and still going strong with tune. (bought at 38000.)

added a cone filter for turbo flutter goodness and got the rear mufflers replaced with some sports ones from speedy exhaust at Everton hills. sounds raspy and burbles and backfires nicely too now. I laugh a lot every time it happens now

short clip of sound. its a lot better under load but this is all I have for now.

am using it as a daily hauler to work and the poor SP20 is sitting at home, but that will change soon
