New Bronze Rims

Today I had to replace 4 tyres. I was in a dilemma. I could either get 4 tyres for the stock 16" rims (roughly $200 each), or I could get some slightly slimmer tyres, and some new 17" rims. As you can guess (by the fact I'm posting this now), I spent the extra $1000, and got the rims too.

What do you think of the bronze? I hate chrome, and silver is too common. I first started looking at the Volk CE28N rims, but at $3000 just for the rims, I couldn't justify it.

Here they are. All I need to do is find some springs for the V6 to drop it a little.

They're 17x7"
The tyres are 17x215x45, so 6mm taller than the old ones

I don't think I'll be having a problem with them scrubbing, but will have to expend the money to find out.

Also something to note. I rang RACV first, and they said that I could only put 7" rims on the car. That's the widest they'll insure. Previously they had a blanket rule of +1" from standard (6.5" + 1" = 7.5"). Don't know if she didn't have a clue, or if they've changed the rules. Don't have to change insurers yet.

You are correct... You have a rule of a 1" width increase with the likes of RACV/NRMA and most likey RACQ seeing as they all fall under the same banner pretty much.. So that means seeing as you have the V6 [bastard] you can insure your car for a 7½" rim. You can also lower your car up to 30mm with these same insurance agencies.

Other than that, your rims look very unique to the colour and it's a good match.. I like it too.

Oh.. BTW.. good to see that you got the front bar re-sprayed.. I remember you telling me about that when the cruise to ballarat was on..
Regards

and also in Vic you can engineer the 1.8 with 7.5" rims (which would normally be restricted to a 6.5") with no problems

I think you kinda got it wrong. The rules used to be 1", but RACV told me they would only insure 7", not 7.5". Don't know if it was the fool at the other end of the phone, or if they changed the rules.

Don't suppose anyone knows what AAMI's rules on larger rims are do they?

i know that AAMI consider alloys of the EXACT same size as stock rims as a modification. and they'll only let me have one mod too

It was the fool at the other end of the phone.. Trust me, you can go 1" wider with RACV.

With AAMI you can go 1½" wider [last time i checked] but you can only have bugger all mods to your car. You can't even have it lowered until your 25 or something ridiculous..

nup that's not rite.

With AAMI under the age of 25 u can have 1 modification : mine being 'lowered' and that's wot it says on my insurance policy. After the age of 25 you can have 2 or 3 mods (not sure). Anything after that just make sure it's not worth much or doesn't have nething to do with suspension or the engine, really.

If you are under 25 you cannot lower your car with AAMi (unless the guidelines changed since I worked there). Only cosmetic mods until that age (and they classed lowering as a performance mod).

Yeah, the age excess thing has been different for males and females for a while. They must have changed the policy conditions since I worked there (back in 02).

Did you just call them up and tell them you were lowering your car? Or did they bitch and moan and increase your premium..??

nup. just called them up and told them i'd lowered it and the guy entered it in the computer and that was it.

and the age excess has changed since oct 03. cos last yr my age excess was the same for males as for females (on my policy it didn't break them down).
