clicking/swishing noise this morning, apparently its the final drive?

i went to go to work this morning and the car starts making a clicking/swishing noise from what sounds like the front left. so i pulled it up and had a look with the torch and couldn't see anything. i babied it back home and had a better look and still couldn't see anything obvious.

so i took it to the closest mechanic, which is ultratune in the valley, and they reckon it's my final drive. you can barely hear it when you're accelerating, perhaps a very small vibration or feeling through the stick that wasn't there yesterday. but when you get off the throttle it starts clicking/swishing quite loudly and you can feel the vibration a little more.

does this really sound like a final gear issue? i would have it was a wheel bearing or CV or something like that. the only part that correlates is the noise is coming from the left front area of the car.

and part 2 is, what do i need to bolt a G series box up to my non-SP astina? i've got a BPT conversion but it was bolted to the original F series gearbox. will i need half shafts and hubs? or will my running gear fit?

Um ultratune? need to drive it to know where it comes from
What does it do full lock both ways? As for series of gearbox i think the CVs are different sizes . Ryan would know all the ins and outs of this.

ultratune is the cloest mechanic to me. i didn't want to drive it far without knowing what the noise was. seems alright lock to lock in the short drive i've had. i've sent you a PM too.

diff or wheel bearing

or the inside axle joint between the middle and right shaft. as they cause vibrations when in there way out. but then you wouldn't be getting left side noise then.

project.r - are you saying it might not be the gearbox? that would be a relief.

mat - i've got a set of hubs/rotors/calipers from an SP that Nate wrecked.

thats cool. u just need the sharfts and box... if u find a wreckers with a new cash guy u can get them cheap. i got a set of sharfts about a year ago 4 50 bucks but they needed to be refurbed. there is a place in moss street that will do it from memory.

I'd say it's probably one of the spider gears in the diff.

The only way to tell is to drive it . Need to do full lock turns left and right to test wheel bearings and have a listen to it on a hoist to tell what is damaged.

i've got an hour off work tomorrow morning to take the car out to Hart Transmissions and they will have a drive and then we'll work out a plan to move forward.

at the moment i'm driving around doing left foot braking and weird heel-toeing to try and keep the evil noise at bay. as long as i've got like 1% accelerator on it's quiet, but i end up speeding everywhere lol.
