Double din screen fitment/bracket ?
Hey everyone, got myself a 1998 bj astina about 2 months ago and really enjoying it so far, nice and reliable.
I just bought a head unit, nice double din screen (Sony XAV-63) The trouble i'm having is that it didnt come with a proper bracket to fit into the astina, i took out the stock head unit today and saw that theres no brackets in the car on the sides to even make a makeshift one. It also dosen't sit flush, and there are gaps between the unit and the dash any tips guys? Is there any bracket kits?/guides/DIY's on how to sort this out? thanks! |

Awesome! that's exactly what i'm looking for thanks ben!
Just one thing, was it just the black bracket around the screen? Or the full fitment that holds the unit in? |

Its the whole thing. It screws onto the head unit in the back, the front acts like a clip to hold it.
I also used some silicon to make it a bit more sturdier. I found it would jump if i went over a big bump since its so back heavy. |

good thinking ben.. i went with getting 4 long zip ties and creating sort of a cradle for the back of it and zipping it to the metal dash board bar thing hasnt dropped out once and also takes the weight off the plastic brackets.. just an idea for ya :-P

I just gave autobarn a call and the guy had no idea what i was talking about (i think he was new...lol) also called strathfield car radio and the bloke said the unit should have come with at least a cradle (which it didn't), but he has a cradle and bracket for $80! ridiculos!
Do you still have a item number or something for the cradle/bracket you bought from autobarn ben? maybe i'll just go down today or tomorw and ask them in person.. |

if you've got a drill and some tipsnips/strong scissors, just make some out of thin aluminium sheet.

Nah sorry man. Was about a year ago I got it. I just walked in and said "have you got a dash surround for a double din to go into a Mazda sp20" they pulled out a book, got a code, rang someone and a few days later it was in my possession! Best to go in yourself and ask. If not I can go back to the autobarn I went to and ask them for a code

Do you guys think a 5.8" screen will look small in there? Cause I'm liking this one (http://www.frankiesautoelectrics.com...-r-rw-usb.html)

7"touch but with well i gess you could say a bigger borader/frame around the screen making it smaller bit it shouldn't look out of preposion. well i think it should look ok, phazr, do you have a part number? coz mine just casually sits there resting on the a/c control unit, with a massive gap on top,
