Dave's back!`
You may have not noticed I was gone, but regardless ... I'm BACK !
2.5 months traveling around South America was an incredible adventure, filled with amazing experiences, great new friends and fond memories that I'll treasure forever. A vastly simplified summary of the trip is that in late May we ( Frida and I ) flew to Santiago, Chile for a few days and then up to Quito, Equador. From here we worked our way east and spend some time in the Amazon jungle, came south west across the Andes and dropped into the top left corner of Peru. In Peru we worked our way down the west coast, and came inland across the desert and up into the Andes mountains. Working our way up to the high altitude mountain ranges, we explored the colca canyon and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. After returning to the capital city to rest/recover, we travelled to Lake Titicaca where we stayed "traditional-style" with a local family before heading into Bolivia. In Bolivia we explored the incredible Salar de Uyuni and the surrounding mountains offroad with 4wds. After that we moved eastward through some beautiful cities before dropping back to a more bearable altitude in Santa Cruz. We headed further eastward and crossed the border into Brazil and into the vast Pantanal wetlands. Working our way south from there down towards the Iguazu falls, including a brief pop into Argentina to explore the waterfalls on that side. Up north east and to the Brazillian coastline, we spent some time on a superb paradise island before settling for a final week in Rio de Janeiro. And now arriving home last Thursday. There are too many memories to cover here, but the car enthusiasts here would have appreciated the v8 sand dune buggies in Peru ( great fun - like having a 100m roller coaster at your control ), the rough 4wd terrain in Uyuni, the car engines turned into boat engines on Lake Titicaca and Ilha Grande ... and probably the "scenery" on the beaches of Rio. The modified car scene in South America was unexpected and "interesting" - it tends to be decorative and useless. Most cars are old , apart from the big cities where you may find a few modern cars in the rich areas. Coming back to boring and familiar home, the trip feels as though it was just a dream. But I've got a truck load of photos, souvenirs and memories. I also collected quite a decent selection of music and dvds while I was there to work my way through. Anything interesting happen while I was away ? |

Did you end up paying a visit to Florianopolis in Brasil?
I went to Brasil in 2002, had a blast and would love to go back one of these days! |

Thanks for the welcome
Some of the dvds I had burnt overseas as backups of the photos are giving me errors so I'm still collating the photos together. I'll stick some up when I can. Who had their cars written off ? I'm stuck in a dilemma now as to whether I should spend my annual leave pay on fixing up the car a bit ( maybe a rebuild ? ) or something nice like a big tv , or the boring option is to put it towards a house. Nice to hear from you all again ! |

- Dan came to Canberra after driving the bug to Valla - Tony turned up at the dinner - the Annual cruise poll looks like it's headed towards Victoria I'm sure there's more. I love the sound of your trip Dave, you went to some very cool places and would have seen stuff I can only dream about. Very jealous but also very happy for you. If you end up putting your pics up in photobucket or something similar, I hope you'll share the link. End of year - go for the house with a HUGE garage so we can all come and stay at yours |

Don't forget Mr Kotter himself.
Storyline is vaguely something along the lines of Kotter went to that school when he was young, and returns to the same school to help wayward teens get back on track with their education. There was some moral content as far as interaction with racial prejudice and gangs and the like, but it was more a sit com centred around a set group of characters and it was funny, sometimes touching, and always entertaining. Epstein was funny, remember the SweatHogs? The gang Barbarino was in? Arnold Horshack was really funny too! And Boom Boom who was soooooo cool? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCaUJN6MFrw I hope the link works, it goes to a youtube montage of the show but I can't get youtube to work on my pc at all |
