Past loves AKA old rides.
So I thought I'd share with you all my last love/hate relationship.
Was a 89 ford Capri (which was basically a 323/laser soft top) Mod list. Being an 89 model I'm pritty sure the B6 twin cam was a upgrade which was how I bought it. 2.5" custom exhaust to the manifold. 17inch rally sparco rims. Loved those. Club sprint replica body kit minus the wing and batman Makita springs (chopped :P lol) PIAA fog lights Leaking roof. (I know not a mod lol) Mazda familia seats. My god how I miss those. Kenwood head unit (now in sp20) Kenwood 6" speakers in front (also in sp20 and blown :/) Sound stream 6"x9" splits in rear. Sound stream 2channel 250w amp 2x alpine 10" type s subs running off alpine 700w amp (also in sp20) Momo gear knob Very warn sport steering wheel. Custom pearl paint. I've still got 500mls of it sitting in my bedroom lol I had some good times in that thing. But man did I hate it when it rained lol. |

We should make a sticky for this kind of thread where people can post their previous cars. I'd love to see what people have been driving before we all discovered the 323/astinas

well my first ride was a '91 capri
spec list. B6 twin cam stock exhaust XD 14 inch stock mags stock fog lights new roof (kinda killed it though) Pioneer bluetooth head unit alpine 6" speakers in front Sony 6"x9"s in rear. pioneer 10" sub running off jensen 900w amp Momo gear knob sports steering wheel. only problem was, i kinda rolled it in the hills :P my next car was a '88 laser. best car i ever had. i loved that thing so much. i put a second hand engine in it when i got it, and it never had any problems again. put the stereo outta the capri into the laser what it looked like when i bought it: what it looked like when i sold it: next car was a '90 pulsar n13 sold it for twice what i payed for it XD when i got it: when i sold it: next car (which i still have) is a '90 holden berlina. i got given it, because the ignition barrel seized up. so i snapped the steering lock and hot wired it to get it home XD. i still need to get around to finishing it :P my other car i still have at the moment is a '87 R31 skyline manual. payed $300 for it. dont know what i want to do with it yet. and thats my collection :P

This was my first and only car for 4 years.
When I bought it, it was an automatic and the only mod was a very old 'performance' exhaust system and lukey headers. Spent a good 4 years with it and a good $20000 on it. In the end the motor and transmission were flogged, but the chassis and suspension and brakes were all ****ing brilliant. Converted it to manual as well. I was always trying to make it the mountain run/Touge falcon. Foolish endeavor though, really the wrong car to start with. Sold it to some young fool who handed over the cash after just his dad drove it for 5 minutes. Then gave me grief for not being able to drive the thing properly, which never seemed to be a problem for mates. I saw it pop up on boost cruising in the for sale section about 2008, same as i left it, but with a fresh motor and trans, i thought about buying it back for second. And here is the mod list as it stood when sold. Code:
Chassis 1993 ED Falcon XR6 [originally automatic] Engine: Tickford Enhanced 4.0L Inline 6 Wade 1636 Cam [billet] Lukey Headers 2.5" Mandrel Bent System, Straight-Through Muffler, High Flow Cat, 127.4db @ 3500rpm K&N Pod Filter XG XR6 Manual ECU Twin EL Thermofans Driveline: EF 5-Speed Manual conversion Short Shift Kit Shift Shifter Factory 3.45 LSD Fluids: Engine: Nulon 15w-50 Gearbox: Redline Shockproof Lightweight Brakes: Motul RBF 600 Cooling: Tectaloy 90 Handling/Braking: King Springs Super Lows Matched KYB Gas-A-Just Short Body Shocks Front: DBA Slotted Rotors, EBC Greenstuff Pads, 30mm Whiteline Swaybar Rear: RDA Solid Rotors, EBC Greenstuff Pads, 24mm Whiteline Swaybar Exterior: Full Body Respray, Ford Dynamic White & Crimson Fire Pearl Clear indicators & Repeaters 18x8" BA XR8 Copy Rims 235/40 Nankang NS2 Tyres Interior: Factory Sports Seats [rebuilt] Red Underseat Cold Cathodes Trip Computer Conversion White Dial Cluster Stereo: Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-MP6029 Front Doors: Custom Pods with Kenwood KFC-1669S 6" 2way Rear: Clarion SRR-6935 6"x9" 3way Subs: 2x 12" Kenwood Units Amp: Response Class D 800W Monoblock After selling that, i bought a BG 323 auto sohc sedan off my old man to get around in while i started doing up a 1991 TS Charade I bought for $170. I had bought all the turbo gear for the 3cyl motor and had freshened up the existing motor and replaced the radiator and assorted parts. In the end I got bored with it looking and smelling like **** and sold the car and parts for about $550 in total. Within a few months of that i crashed the 323 sedan up the side of a bus out of boredom I think and bought the current turbo BG 323 astina off a mate for about $4000. Have since spent over $6000 on the gearbox and probably the same in other mods/servicing. This has definitely been the best car i've owned in terms of driver satisfaction. I dunno why this didnt last, but im watching 2 fast 2 furious and it reminds me of my first car. Lance the lancer (Original name right?) Was a 1995 Mitsubishi CC lancer. 1.5L carby, slow and rough as Sh*ite.
Was done up in about 2000, chrome wheels, neon and body kit, full rage. Was also dropped on king springs, had a catback exhaust (DRONEEEEEEE) Owned it for about 3 years. I learnt to drive in this car. Got it 2 days after i got my L's and sold it when i got my green P's....It has the first car love still and i still somehow in my heart miss it. I actually know the guy who own's it, were facebook buddies. He lost his licence in it (Me not know how did i mention slow?) The 2nd car. I replaced lance because well, because it was slow, old and rough. 2004 Commodore S-pac. Rare sunroof model. Only about 1000 were made with a sunroof. (Thats small for commodores!) Why did i sell? Because the VY is notorious for fuel pump problems on big hills. I live, on a very big hill. To get home i would have to have over half a tank of petrol, this was killing me. Had it for 11 months Now i have the mazda-rati... Mazda SP20 2 by Photographs_by_Ben, on Flickr |

Haha, nice thread revival.
I got my first car (BG) when I was 15. Stripped it al down an gave it a respray. Wasn't finished by the time I got my L's So I learnt to drive on my brothers 180sx (SR20DET) with a brass button ceramic clutch (not fun)... However I was BOSS at school Was a flutter machine... Full 3inch exhaust, bell mouth dump, stainless exhaust manifold, huge hybrid FMIC and CAI Then BG was finished, so basically flogged that for 2 and a bit years. I bought my BG for $50, spent $800 drove it for 2 years and sold it for 1500 Then bought my current SP20 Will upload pics tomorrow! EDIT: First Love was always my motorbikes... Especially my last one... Unfortunately had to sell due to injuries. 2003 KTM 640 LC4 XD

I learnt to drive in NZ in mums 1988 Toyota Starlet 4 speed manual and Dad had a 1982 Gemini with a 1800 in it.
Mum had a spare car which I was allowed to drive for a while until she sold it. It was a now very rare 1969 Riley Elf MK III (a mini with a boot) After that I got my first car which was a 1982 Mazda Familia XG with stupid micky mouse mirrors (eletric!!) and a sunroof with A/C. I had that for 2 years and was sick of its lack of speed and felt it was time for a newer car. I traded it in on a 1987 Mazda Etude with me being 19 and it being a DOHC 16 valve EFI I found it hard to get insurance as back then they were considered performance items. It was very unusal for a Jap import as it had never been fitted with A/C. As far as I know it was the first Mazda fitted with VICS. It wasn't slow either. I had a lot of fun in that car in the 9 months owned it. I discovered it needed a new gearbox as it crunched into second if you tried to change gears fast. So instead of fixing it I managed to find the first facelift 1991 Mazda Familia BG 1.8 GT Facelift model imported into Christchurch with ABS, climate control, sunroof and twin rear spoilers. The ABS failed on it and spun the car the wrong way through a corner. It managed to spin the car so the drivers rear wheel hit the kerb on the left side of the road doing this. The car then rolled backwards into a post doing this. The insurance company decided to fix that mess and 11 weeks later I got my car back with quite a few issues, including an upside down rear sway bar. I kept it for a while after it was fixed as it was such a fun car. After owning it for 2 years the new car bug caught me and I traded it in on a 1994 Mazda Eunos manual with LSD. I didn't keep it very long as I found it a very boring car to drive. Even though it had the JDM spec 2.0 V6 with 160hp (120KW) it felt gutless at low revs and didn't move unless it was revving unlike the BP in the 1.8 GT. I traded it in on a 1988 Mazda Familia GTAE 4WD Turbo. (Not my car but example pic, I didn't have a sunroof or that nicer mags) The previous owner had properly lowered it and had fitted a large exhaust to it, the boost had also been raised to 10+ psi. It was an extremely quick little car and we had a load of fun in it. We used to go playing on gravel roads as it had a electronic diff lock. After thrashing the nuts out of it for 18 months it was stuffed. The gearbox and diffs needed a rebuild and the turbo used to blow 1/2 a L of oil per tank out the exhaust. I also was sick of being everyones taxi so I traded it in on a 1989 Eunos Roadster (MX 5) I went from being everyones free taxi to having mates calling me and saying if I give you $20 will you take me for a drive along the hills with the roof down! It had been worked in Japan before I got it and it flew!! It had enough power to pull out and overtake 7 identical mx5s in a row on a club run in NZ. Mine was the dirty one on left. I sold that car and moved to Australia and bought this!! It was a 1984 Nissan 280 ZX Targa top auto. It was a great car until a mate borrowed it and destroyed the fuel pump. We couldn't find parts to fix it and a new fuel pump was $1200. So I sadly traded it on on the biggest mistake ever. A 1995 Hyuandia Excel Sprint. (an example pic as it was not worth wasting a photo on) Why they called it a sprint I dont know as I could run faster. It had a saftey feature where if it detected you where trying to have fun or even accelerate it would randomly drop back to only firing on 2 cylinders. After 6 months of having daily fix it missions just to get to work as it did a high and dry trick and fell apart as you drove it. The mirrors, door handles, widow winders and anything else used to randomly vibrate off. I replaced the ECU as I had replaced coils, leads and plugs already. The car couldn't handle the fact it was now running correctly and split the head in 5 places just to show me there was no hard feelings. I had just been to a car sales yard and called them and asked if they still wanted my car. They stupidly said yes and I swapped it for a 1985 Toyota Corolla Seca I called rolly as it just kept going. It had a leaky waterpump when I got it and after I swapped it I had only one issue when it snapped its drive shaft. It was a great car and it looked after me well until I traded it in on my current car which I bought brand new in December 2002. Last edited by phildough; 13-05-2012 at 09:00 AM. |
