Crank pulley bolt that will not move.

sooo... My Timing Belt is 10,000km overdue for a change. I bought the spare parts. Slowly dissembled everything to get to the timing belt. Not much room in these engines.

Got the wrecker bar on the bolt main crack shaft pulley bolt.
Nothing.
Tried on a friends (he's an ex-mechanic) advice to use the starter motor to loosen it.
Nothing.
Got my brother and Dad to push a 3m lever to loosen it while I push on to the brakes with all my might.
Something! I give up I'll just pay a mechanic to change it. The bolt won't budge edges are starting to round..

I did both. Repeated heat cycles. I don't even know how a mechanic will get it off. Like I said I have given up. Can't believe the socket gave up before the bolt turned.

right hand thread
there isn't anything on a mazda that's reverse thread as far as I could tell

he should get a better socket or maybe just use a rattle gun with a proper matching socket

Some are pretty hard to take off, luckly i have small air compressor and a impact rattle gun and just managed to get it off after a few go's. If you were closer i could have got it over your place to give it a go.

Need to use 6 sided Impact Socket. Anything else will round it nicely.

Heating it before trying should also aid in it's removal.

If you don't have a rattle gun.....
  • Use a Breaker Bar and an IMPACT socket, and rest the bar on the ground (front of car).
That's why your socket split and gave out... not designed for the torque required to crack the crank bolt.
  • Turn KEY to Start for just a second or two, and Whammo... job done!

I know this works... done it myself.

... and..... not all rattle guns are created equal. I just bought an IR gun on Amazon 2 weeks ago $110 + $20 shipping. Sounds like a V8 compared to the cheapy SCA brands.
