Regarding Lights/Leds On Cluster, Heater - How To Change ....

Hi,

i wanted to ask is there a thread or someone knows how to change the led on the cluster or heater controls or lights on de-fog, foglights etc......

Some of my lights are faded - and id like to change them to newer ones or even different colour (like blue) is there a guide someone knows (hopefully theres pictures) ?

Is it a hard job to do ?

i just wanna see how its done and where do you remove the old leds to put new ones ?

To change the heater controls you've got to take apart the heater unit - just a coupla plugs ad a few screws (once you remove the gauge part of the dash). Then solder new LEDs in.

There's also tiny bulbs that light the hot/cold strips, so you've got to change them too.

Just another quick question, in the cluster were you replace the 3 bulbs (speedo, revs, heat and fuel gauge) in the same bulb does it light the needle for the speedo, revs, heat and fuel gauge ?

Cause the reason i ask, is that i seen some clusters with blue background but needle is green.

I only changed the three that are out in that picture and dials and needles are all blue. They are slightly dimmer than the original green but I've read that if you sand the back of the dials it helps disperse the light better so the next time I have the dash out I'm going to try this.
I much prefer the blue look though.

Would anyone know the bulb size/proper name when i go and get them ? or are they just standard or .... ?

Chances are im ganna change the rev, speedo, fuel&heat gauge, since mines a auto it has the P,R,N,D...etc... on it and with chance some, foglight etc..... so in other works need a couple .

(The Heater/Fan console will be done maybe a week after i do the cluster, incase i stuff up )

I'm not positive but I think they are the same size capsule bulbs as the side lights. 501's I think. I still have the originals that came out. I'll check them and get back to you.

Just checked the old bulbs and there are no visible markings left on it except a faded 12V. I had a look on a site that I buy bulbs from and the majority of the ones listed were 509. They look like the ones that came out of my dash but I can't say for certain. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

LOL. Umm. Only cause you PMed me

Dial Cluster:
3 x 194/168 wedge base bulbs for the dials, as the 3 others are indicator/fuel.
Refer here - http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html -> Single LED Wedge Base Bulbs

Heater Controls:
You'll need 7 LEDs (not bulbs) and possibly suitable resistors to go inline behind them. Something around 3000mcd as you don't need them to be superbright as otherwise they annoy backseat passengers (speaking from experience here!).
Have a look inside the box and you'll see how they're set up
http://superbrightleds.com/leds.htm

There's also two minature bulbs inside the box. Well at least inside mine but there's a few different versions of the heater controls, so you might want to check first.
Refer here - http://superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html -> Instrument Cluster and Gauge Backlights -> the T1.5 and B8.3D lamps

Personally i wouldn't bother with the hazard/demister.

And my heater internals are waaay different to that.

mine came out way dimmer and 'splotchy'
I'll pull the dash out again later after the Clipsal and make sure they are all working.

For the money savers out there, you can change the needles to white by just taking the rubber green covers off the current bulbs (NB: in theory, I haven't actually tried this myself)

Yeah, i think that'd work.

If you really want to change the color of them, use some transparent hobby paint on the top edge.
