Antenna question
Hey guys, just musing a bit of a thought here, is it possible at all to wire ur antenna so it only goes up when u have it on radio? i tend to use usb/cd about 90% of the time, and if it were possible to make it only come up if i was tuning into a radio station thatd be sweet. if it is possible, anyone wanna walk me through it ? Matt

not simple as far as i know, but you can wire it up to a seperate switch wich you can turn on when you turn to the radio..

Have you considered an on-demand antenna. I saw this idea over at club323f.com
Basically wire up a switch between the antenna power cable so you can choose when you want it on. I havent done it myself but it sounds easy enough. The hard part is just figuring out which cable is the antenna power cable Edit: Tony beat me to it. I guess you've seen that article too LOL

honestly its simple to do the switch assuming you have basic electrical knowledge. you can get the wiring diagrams from 323f and then back trace the wire and put a switch on it.
otherwise some aftermarket HU's have an antenna trigger that only is used when you're listening to the radio (High end sonys?)

hehe i beat u to it phly yeah i saw that article too, but after i did my ice, i have a same sort of switch for my amp (cus my sub is very anoying with radio so i turn it of when i listen to hamis and andy )
you dont need to back track any wires, dont put the switch on to the power antena motor powercable as it draws a large current i assume and it might burn out a switch put it on the trip wire cable, its the low current wire that activates the relay switch for the actual power cable for the motor this wire is the same one as for your amp, well it comes out of your cd player as the same one (remote, usualy blue) and then it would branch to your amp and antena seperatly |

Most/Many aftermarket head units should have an antenna wire that triggers it to go up only when the radio is on.
If yours doesn't do that - you can put in a manual switch to control it. Which model astina do you have ? There is probably a trigger wire for the antenna already near the stereo. With power, it will trigger the antenna to go up, without power it will trigger it to go down |
