can i run front components and a sub off 1 amp?

i'm thinking about a stereo overhaul/upgrade. current setup is a average mp3 playing head unit, 6" crap speakers in the front doors and the previous owner ripped out out the rear original speakers, cut holes in the back doors and put 6" crap speakers in there too. it looks awful.

i want a head unit with aux input and a sub, remove the rear speakers and replace the door cars, replace the fronts with nice components and get a 10" sub. no speakers in the rear at all. i'm fairly knowledgeable with car stereos and have installed all my own before, but i'm used to just running speakers off the head unit and an amp for the sub.

i want to know if i can power the front components and sub with a single amp. i'm sure there will be models out there that will have enough power for the front components, but will any have enough power to pump the sub?

EDIT: something like this maybe?

2/3/4 channel brigable amp, 2x300w, low and high pass filter on both channels

is 240w enough for a 10" sub? i'm used to dual 12" badboys running off a 800wrms monoblock here, not used to 'channels'. :P

think of channels as multiple monoblocks , with less power..
so that amp will give you 120W rms for the sub and 60W for each of the components..
my guess is that this will be enough for the sub probably, and the speakers that depends i dont think it will but cus you have to power a seperate woofer and tweeters
but make sure that you run both front and rear chanels from the headunit, so that the front do the speakers and rear does the sub sort of thing, if you run just one and split it to 2 at the amp for front and rear the sound level will literaly be halfed..

for an example, I have a 60wrms x4ch amp, Im able to run the sub I have, with two channels bridged to give me 120wrms, enough to power my kickers 12" sub in its ported box. If your running just a set of splits, it'll be fine, and if you want rear speakers, run them off the cd player...

Cheers
Marc

http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp...T&SUBCATID=595

so does that mean i can get 380w to the sub with this amp or is it 100w to each component and 200w to the sub?

youl get about 130rms for each channel thats not bridged and 300 for each chanel that is. so sub will get 300, speakers will get 130 each.. this one is much better than the other one you had up i know it says 380 but im sure thats a typo, cus in the text it says 300 and that 380 must be at 2ohm not at 4

jaycar always give their outputs @ 14.4V, which is optimal but rarely achieved without a capacitor. that's why the product title says 4x100w as that is what you'll get at 13.8V, which is way more realistic.
