Help :( Car Dead!
So i was driving along Canning Hwy, everything hunky dory when my engine cuts out when shifting from 3rd to 4th. Just like that.
Managed to roll safely into a side street, but she refused to start after cutting out. A rolling start was ineffective. Engine turns over but won't fire at all Battery voltage is fine Fuses all look intact Fuel pump works Any suggestions where to start looking from here? BJ 1.6L ZM-DE Cheers Ash |

dizzy? (ignition module) Has the car been missing a bit lately or bogging down under load? Getting worse over short time?

i don't think mine has a dizzy, it's got the coil packs mounted directly over the plugs, not sure how i'd test these for function, or even what's electrically upstream from them. other than that, it was a very spontaneous death, no warning signs that i noticed, although perhaps it was a bit sluggish earlier in the day |

fuel delivery or power supply to the coils would be where i'd be looking at. |

that's what i was thinking, fuel is fine up to the injector rail, i just don't know how to go about testing for injector function or what to check on the power supply side of the coils

have a look at the timing belt. When my show astina had the standard engine in it. Was driving around and felt the car die without any warning. No spark but everything was working. Found out the timing belt had snapped.

I had something like that happen to me late last year, turned out to be one of the main fuses had blow, who knows why, there must have been some dodgy wiring which shorted out.
I'd be looking at electrical because it seems strange that it stopped all of a sudden, normal most mechanical items go gradually or make a stange noise before failing. might be worth checking battery terminal are connected properly and just basics like that?

Curses! That didn't appear to fix it. Intermittent still.

well, i thought it turned out to be one of the connections to the batter as it was loose, and upon tightening, the car behaved fine for a month.
but just this week it went into limp mode while i was driving to work, This time though, the computer gave me a DTC indicating that the Camshaft Sensor was awry, Again though, limp mode was intermittent and it came good for most of the rest of the drive. However it cut out again completely just as i was pulling into my neighbourhood. I'm stumped. I'm hoping this symptom is related to the cam sensor but i'm skeptical because it didn't give me the error before when it was doing this. so i'm worried it's a couple of wires in the loom that are dodgy. however, i've booked it into Mazda for monday and hopefully they'll be able to sort it out for me. |

if you're not getting fuel or spark, i'd say the cam sensor is not to blame. the main relay is in the fuse box under the bonnet, for me it was the green relay, but as we have different models, yours may be different. relay locations are given in the user manual for the car, if you don't have that, try asking on the forums, there's heaps of helpful members more familia (sic) with your model
