Ah lol, I didn't realise how old it was. Still trying to work out how you get your number plates back... They say they are taken upon entry, but does that mean they end up with 1000 sets of number plates? I'm a little confused lol
And i'm assuming $10 to register is if you're going in it to try win something, rather than just to go there?

the $10 entry fee is if you want to be judged, just register print off the ticket and get in for free, I just did and they just write your plates down not take them

If you read a few posts above yours you'll see they don't take the physical plates (like I also first thought) but rather just write them down to deter burnouts and other behavior that is against their rules. Makes sense really..
