wheel barings??

hey guys have u seen the movie the grudge??? u know the little kid and the sound he makes???

well i am hearing a sound that is very simular that is coming from my right side wheel!!!!

i was told it could be funny tread wear or pressure! but is it posiable that it could be wheel barings?? if it is what sort of $$$ am i looking at???

it only does it when weight is put on the wheel (like in a corner light or sharp) doesnt do it when going straight.

thanks heaps in advance guys

I haven't seen the movie, is it a low grinding sort of sound or a high pitched squeal. If it's a low grinding/growling sound it quite possibly could be the wheel bearing.
If you jack the wheel off the ground try to wobble the wheel. The big nut in the centre of your hub may be loose, which would make the wheel bearing loose, which can make funny noises and wear the bearing out quickly. I only suggest this as it used to happen on my old 323, the nut would continually come loose and make a funny noise.

Its not to cheap a rear wheel bearing cost me 150 and we fitted it in the garage front ones are more expensive and you shouldnt redo them yourself unless you Know what your doing and have the right tools

i took my car to my mechanic and he thought it mite be the fact that i have uneven tyre wear and perhaps that my front LHS wheel is wobbly cos tyre is comin off. ahh well gettin new wheels and tyres soon with reallignment, so that should fix the problem

I get a high pitched squeal/squeek out of mine in the mornings (front left) but it goes away when the cars warm (I assume thats what clears it up).

i really doubt you'll do any damage to your car. wheel bearings would need to travel 50-100,000km before the start eating away at a wheel hub, which i'll probably fall off 1st. as for fire, thats a load of crap...

you can still drive on it, but do get it fixed asap... (no drifting or high speed cornering if rear bearings.)

I don't know if they would catch fire, but if the grease ran out, they would get very hot, and may seize, worst, worst case scenario.
