Question Appropriate amp for Kicker, CompVR Subs.

I'm purchasing a pair of subs from a user on this forum and am just wondering what sort of amp I'd need to run these well.

The subs are these : http://www.kicker.com/compvr_aluminized_subboxes

They are
Type Dual
Impedance (OHMS) 2
Number of Woofers and Size (in., cm) (2)12, 30
Max Rec Amplifier Power (WATTS PEAK/RMS)* 1600/800

Thanks for the help

Well the true reading is RMS, watts are just the huge number that makes it sound impressive. Always go for a Mono amp for a subwoofer (especially these as they need all the power they can get.)

So aim for a amp around 500rms if you want hurting bass. The subs pull 800rms (That's its peak) If you go over that you'll do some good damage, probably blow the subs.

I went for a kicker amp just to keep the kicker theme going on, you dont have to go kicker.

Some links for you.

This one if you want to get the max out of the subs:

They're good amps. Conservatively rated. There's a 1000w one on ebay too

1. RMS is not peak. Its more representive of the normal draw when you're playing them hard. 1600W is the peak, thats why they call it... peak power

2. You should overdrive subs a little if possible. And not go way under power unless you're not going to crank it up, you'll run into clipping rapidly. Overdriving them (using a 900-1000W rms amp instead of 800W rms, if you go over 900~ i'd turn the gain down a bit to compensate) gets the best performance out of them and you don't run into clipping on the amp.

At a minimum I'd get that last kicker amp, or even better look for its slightly bigger brother, the zx1000.1 if you want to stick with Kicker

Otheriwse I'd look at:

Good price and plenty of headroom and its space conservative

I have got a massive cadence amp. It's carbon fiber finish and about 65cm long.

Let me know if you are interested.

Vibe audio make awesome amps, I had one in my car for some time, and could pretty much run my subs at full volume without bottoming out or distorting (gains adjusted correctly), it was clean sounding too (I had dual Orion subs http://www.ministryofbass.com.au/mos...-500w-rms.html in a custom enclosure) - I later sold it all though, but I definitely recommend Vibe audio!
