How to fix IAC?
Gday guys, My BA has been idling really badly for a few weeks now and I thought it was bad fuel. Well Ive run 4 tanks through it and changed the filter as well but it still does it. It nearly stalls when I switch the aircon on as well.
I searched the forums and saw that it might be my IAC? Does it sit directly underneath the throttle body? Exactly what do I have to do to fix this.... or is it a replacement situation? Cheers Jason |

Hey Jason,
Try checking the small hoses on the sensor connected to the airbox, if one of these is off the idle speed may vary, happened to me though not quite to the extent you described.. Joe |

Yes...IAC is directly underneath the TB. It has a electrical connector with two wires. Check the resistance between the two terminals (on the IAC , not the harness) it should be about 9 - 11 ohms. If the IAC valve its dirty you can clean it with carby cleaner. Also look for any cracks in the air intake pipe and two small hoses.

quick hint. recently i developed a rough idle, stalling when putting into neutral etc. bascially annoying to drive... fixed with a $9 bottle of carby cleaner. fellowed the advice of one on my work mates whos really good with cars and he said these engines build up heaps of muck so spray a ****load into the air intake (with the engine off and throttle open) and then start it will result in a black cloud of smoke and i did this twice then got adventourous and tried with the engine running, opened enough to get a small tube (came with teh can) and sprayed into the engine while opening throttle (dies otherwise) and bingo FIXED! had to wash the car afterwards but worth it
anyone struggling follow this and youll be laughing hopefully!

I've persisted with mine until now, it's really giving me the ****s and my fuel economy has gone downhill. I've been to the wreckers and they want $145 but I can get a new one from the US for `$148 This is not a new one but it's what is on mine http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00...Q5fAccessories Apparently the one I have on mine is from a BJ.... I have confirmed that mine is the same as the one in that link so I really don't know whats going on. I'll give the carby cleaner a try though before I purchase. |

nope, my IAC is gone too. i think we can get them from REPCO etc for around $90. dont quote me on that, i think project r (ryan also) said this. ill be getting one soon as im sick of it going crazy. i took mine to get a tune and was alot better but yeah still needed replacing, slowing either going out of tune or commpletely failed becuase its gotten worse... if you get one lmk where abouts and how much $$
EDIT: looking at my invoice for the tuneup its listed "NOTE: Wax Pallet Valve in throttle body is faulty and is causing the high idle" umm nothing on google reveals anything but porn and malware! i assume its the same sensor, as there is only 2 on the TB. also i just called REPCO and he looked on the system and in a few books for both mazda and FORD and has no IAC's listed for any model in the 1994-98/1.8ltr range? im a bit lost now...

Not a problem, I'll be doing some ringing around tomorrow.
Is yours the same as the one in the link I posted? The local wreckers told me my BA shouldnt have that IAC as it's from a BJ. |

Well I did my calling around today and it seems they are no longer available aftermarket. Looks like it's Ebay USA for me.

glad to hear its all good! im still struggling, mine is now driving rough as and cant fix it, it refuses to run (dunno why but it is- maybe something else is dead haha) at 2200rpm. it shakes and complains. runs awesome at 3500-7000 but... bit strange. i did readjust the timing but its confused me as to why i now have a funny spot in the rev range.
id like to get one from australia as that one looks different to the one i need to try and get for my car...
