Certainly is. Compared to some other turbos its still quite small. I plan to upgrade to a Garett GT series BB turbo when budget permits.

Respray and some ICE first.

Sat 17 Apr: Weeee look at the pink elephants

Went down to check out where we were at with the car. Daryl was working on wiring in the thermofans which werent too difficult. The new fan for the AC had arrived (had to get a low profile fan as the std one fouled with the turbo). That went in.

We then proceeded to put a base tune into the ecu to let the car idle and fix the base timing on the motor. The car was running very rough with black smoke billing out the exhaust due to a very rich mixture. Seemed like the injectors were behaving under WOT conditions. Man those squiters can dump some fuel.

Checked the TPS and realised it was wired back to front so it was reading WOT with the slightest touch of the go pedal. Re-wired and the car now happily idles with some fine adjustments to the cold start map and base fuel map.

Got a nice burble to the exhaust.

This week will see dyno tuning to fill out the rest of the fuel maps and wire up the boost controller to keep an eye on boost levels. Then off to epa and eng and we are rolling

Oh and screaming is no more for the record. No pics to add this week, nothing really exciting apart for some braid here and there.

The turbo is supposedly good for upto 300-350hp. The fueling system is good for more then that.

I wont be running any more then 16psi of boost and the feeling is that it will come in around 160 - 180kw atw.

Should know next week.

My personal goal is 200kwatw driveable.

It went on the Dyno today. He should have most of the tune completed by Saturday.

Still has a starting problem though.

I would read any tuning manual you can find before the weekend for the haltek
about clamping the cold start fuel.
Make sure the closed loop is turned off and that the car is in base mode so that
there is no extra advance affecting the mixture. You should then be able to "Clamp"
the amount of fuel for cold start.

Sat 01 May: Dyno fun

Today was a day of mucking around on the dyno, tuning through the rev ranges and fixing some idle and cold start problems.

We have replaced the 3bar map sensor with a 2bar sensor to allow finer adjustment of fuel in low revs. The bigger injectors are bastards to control and the ecu is very touchy. We have found the O2 sensor may be rooted or full of carbon so could potentially be up for a new O2 sensor.

We saw a torque figure of around 400nm @ ~4Krpms in 3rd gear running around 6/7psi of boost. This equates to roughly 80odd kwatw. Timing is pretty tame at 12deg BTDC so there is plenty of room to move in revs/boost and timing. The initial estimate of around 160kwatw will be pretty close although will more then likely work out to be around 150 or so. The turbo is yet to break a sweat so the next 6/7psi of boost should be interesting.

We had to stop due to heat problems causing funny rpm readings (16000rpms...what a screamer) and the ECU was cutting our fun with a good ol fuel cut... at least I know it works Shouldnt be too much of an issue on the open road. The intercooler seems to be soaking up most of the air from the Dyno fan and the radiator fan is blowing warm air over the intake piping and dizzy increasing the intake temp to about 40deg and heating up the cap on the dizzy.

All in all it was a fun day, car sounds awesome under load.
