whine whine whine ... SHUT THE F@RK UP!! - Help
i just bought a new 'audioline' 4 X 200 channel ampilfier, heaps of features (twin crossovers, bass boost, treble boost, rah rah rah) from JB HiFi - normally $220 ... got it for $160 ...
Anyway, The gear >> front - 2 x 2 way 6 inch back - 2 x 2 way 6x9's subs - 2 x 12 inch amp - 4 x 200 The setup >> I have my two subs running off a channel each (bass boost up ), and my front speakers running off the other two channels (midrange on, treble up), rears are running off the headunit, headunit is powered off the stock loom, amp is earthed out thru the chassis. The Problem >> My new found power (feel the power!) has resulted in a terrible whining noise when the engine is running, like an interference, engine off the system is loud and crisp, buckets full of bass, no worries! but as soon as i turn the key ... wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Any help? proper eathing kit?? (i know it will help anyway but is it causing the noise) filter??

Try to get your earthing cable close or in with other earthing points.. This was the advice that my Alpine amp booklet gave when i was reading up.. make sure the earthing cable is roughly the same guage as power as well.. just to be on the safe side.
I still need to get mine all sorted out.. AP

Nate, shorten your Grounding lead, make it as short as humanly possible, if you have to, carefully drill a hole in the closest metal thing to the Amp, and ground it to that with a monster bolt.
Also, you will have RCA leads from the headunit to the Amp, make sure your RCA leads dont follow the same path as the power leads to your Amp, I usually do Power down the console, under the carpet, under the seat, and up to the Amp, RCA through the left or right cable ducting. Also, the noise might be coming fromt he headunit, so do the same thing with the earthing of the head unit, solder it to something metal about 15cm away from where it's mounted, and also make sure your power leads from the headunit dont get close to your speaker/RCA leads (if they have to cross, cross them at direct 90 degree angle, because it will create less interference). If you have stupidly long RCA leads, DONT coile them up, this creates induction current, which will also cause issues. Failing all this, you can get an Areo filter, which will fix the issue. B.

its all good now ... a wiring expedition resulted in the death of my headunit. so i now have the stock headunit wired up with an amp powering the front speakers and sub. because its the stock head unit i had to use the hi input wires (as opposed to the RCA's) which have an earth wire and 4 speaker wires. the earth wire is there to stop interference. when i hooked up the earth wire i get the wiiizzz, when its discontect it no wizz. go figure
