a mechanic once the has done many bpt conversions told me the the BA pump was good for 300hp/225kW cars. dunno if there is any truth to it, but i have seen many with 200hp/150kW on the stock mazda pump.

even at 200hp/150kW, thats a highly modified engine setup, considering a stock BP-26 will run 95-105kW... so i'd be worrying about the pump a little later in the build life.

The pump provides both pressure and volume, the pressure is caused as a result of the pressure regulator doing its job. If the engine is tuned to the point where the pump can not provide the quantity of fuel need by the injector cycle then you need a pump that can supply the additional fuel volume.

But

That won't compensate for a fuel pressure regulator that is set too low.

The question becomes is the fuel problem one of low volume or low pressure and the answers to each question are different with a little overlap.
