I thought since im pulling it apart to change the bearings why not spend a messely extra $120 to get better rods, they have been shotpeened by UMR in Moss st so i thought why not...i did think about not putting them in but hey, i have them now..+ in the far future if i do get an aftermarket ECU, i wont have to worry about rebuilding

nothing wrong with that sorta powers
That is awesome, this is what i want to achieve although i didnt think the ECU was tunable? Do you have pics of this setup? How big is his FMIC?

NZ dyno's read higher. Ross will confirm that. The stock ECU isn't tuneable. What can be fiddled with though is fuel pressures and also the AFM vane spring tention to adjust fuel at WOT.

I've been watching the following of the Hotwire set up on FL.com, im thinking this would have a slight adavntage in engine response would it not?...Why do NZ dyno's read larger no.'s how do we know if Aust dyno's are accurate if everywhere is different? Finally what is WOT?...hahahaha

its about the correction factors
put it this wasy, US dyno's read 15% HIGHER than OZ or NZ dyno's most of the time

so when a US person is making 300whp from a few simple mods, yet us downunder ppls are not getting 300whp with out spending big $$ or doing all out GTR swaps massive boost etc

there WHP is more or less the flywheel hp when corrected to there SAE or what ever standard they have
dyno jet,
mustang
many many others and each dyno has its own correction factor, some are just corrected based of the engines orginal outputs...if it made x tourqe and had 100hp stock then it must be 300whp .simple! lol

I agree, you'd be mad not to get an aftermarket ECU. i gained over 20kw atw vs the standard GTX ECU.

Yeah but it is easy to do later on down the track also, this is why im not fazed by the option atm.....i dont care so much about the power increase as much as i do the tuning of the boost line, making it more linear would be a treat...

You cannot tune the boost line with a factory ECU... But a aftermarker ECU you can do whatever you want with. It's not just about maximum hp/kW... You can then tune it the way you want it, linear, non-linear, it's then your choice. Not the factory ECUs choice.

Exactly - i was going to ask how you planned to do hat if you're only running the GTX ECU.

I was running a vf8 hybrid on my BPT with a stock GTX ecu
it was a fantastic turbo, I loved it

the VJ20 was good because the response was almost instant with boost coming on at just a touch under 2k and have full boost just before 3k

the vf8, you would have 5psi~ by 2500 and it would be in full swing by 3.5k
the vf8 came on harder and stronger than the vj20,
10 psi on the vf8 felt the equivalent of 14psi on the vj20

downside with using a vf8, is that you'll be lucky to get anything more than 11-12 psi out of it before the boost cut kicks in for you
that was the downside,

10psi the vf8 is only just starting to wake up and get ready to rumble..
I could imagine 16~psi on the vf8 would make it an animal

Thats what i meant, when i get a stand alone ECU i dont care about extra power as much as tuning the boost line...sori for not explaining it better...down the track after i have invested in a house etc i will look at getting a standalone but for now im sticking with the GTX jspec ecu...should keep me happy for awhile, after all ive kept the NA for almost a year...its still fun..hahaha

Hey Zero, did you have any major traction problems with this setup, i know being a totally different car and all but this was one of my main concerns with the setup i wanted? People have been telling me ill spin the wheels everywhere becaus ei want response over max power...why did the VF8 hit boost cut with 12psi, doesnt the ECU handle 14 or is it actually measured by the amount of pressure and not the total psi range? this is interesting...

Its measured by Air flow...hence you have an AFM (air flow meter). It's a vane type. Every turbo has a different CFM (cubic feet per minute)...as you know, for a greater volume container, more air is required to create the a same PSI of compression as a smaller container. So, if you have a bigger turbo compressor, it's going to take more air to create a similar boost pressure of a smaller turbo.

The afm and the ECU doesn't know you have changed the turbo, so it thinks you are just running more boost due to the measured air flow.

I hope i explained that clear enough...sorta...I'm a couple of beers up already. Merry Xmas.
