BA Centre speaker and other questions

hey guys ive got a few questions reguarding the BA stereo
since im picking up my new HD today
first off does the black dial surround that holds the light dimmer etc have to come off to get the old HD out?
also how is the centre speaker wired up?
ive been told it is powered by a seperate amp. so im wondering if i can wire it up so it works as well. any idea how i would do this? or how it worked in the first place with orginal tape player. as the old kenwood thats in it now doesent power it

thanks in advanced
cheers kane

Yeah, the main dash bit has to come off - there's a tutorial somewhere. And the centre console and gearshift surround as well.

And from memory the centre speaker taps into the wiring of the front speakers, then takes that to the centre amp under the HU and then to the centre speaker. So i think unless you redo the wiring it'll still work...i think. Been too long since i messed with it.

Not the factory HU, it slides straight out.
Power for the centre amp +ve comes from the battery (not through accessory) and -ve is switched on/off from the HU.
If you're going to use a larger amp I doubt you'd hear anything from the centre even if it hadn't been sitting there collecting dust for the past 15ish years.

Yup, original HU should just slide out. Look for the holes on the side of the HU and slide something thru them to release the locks.

And the centre will be useless with a ungraded HU front speakers. So just ignore it.

i think i wont even worry about the front speaker then
i took the cover off and it loked pretty ruff so i doubt it would work or if it. it would be pretty bad
