Painting BA Dash!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey i recently decided to respray my BA dash and centre console to make it look a little more original than before (not that it didnt look nice as it was). My colour choice is Satin Silver and Electric Blue and will go over the top to seal it with a clear coat or some sort...
I have already started as you can see in the pictures and will update them as i go..... Oh a question,, Im having difficulty removing the black part of the dash, where the heating instruments, hazard light button, and cluster is... Is it possible to remove just that plastic part of the dash without going near the passanger airbag or the grey vinil of the dash.... Oh yer u cant see because its not done yet but im doing the aircon ducts electric blue and the heating instrument clusters, and the rest of the black facia will continue the satin silver finish.. Wat do you think?....... PIC 1

How not? It tells you how to remove the dash/cluster cover.

Well i finally managed to get that part off the dash without breaking anything but for some reason after i dusted the speedo the needle seems to be lagging and wont work at low speeds eg under 10km/h,,, but on the bright side the dash will soon b finished,... as you can see the final coats still need to be applied and a clear coat over the top of that will follow....

You might want to think about moving your heater controls down to the top stereo DIN, and putting the gauges in their position. it can be done with a bit of fiddling.

yer im installing a 3 gauge holder on the dash,, its a good idea but i dont like fiddling lol...

nope... i have just bought a 3 gauge holder that goes on the frame between the front window and the windscreen if that makes sense,, its next to your head but forward.. that way i wouldnt have to take them off everytime not that taking them off the dash is hard work.. As y not using the dim,, well i like having a place to put my moby and wallet, cd's just general storage thats quick to access...
HERES the finished dash... I WILL PUT MORE PICS UP + the glovebox needs to be done

im pretty sure that even if u mount them on the dash u wont have to unscrew the sensor from the engine aslog as u leave enough wire so that you can disconnect the gauges from the holder and leave them in the car.... Il post pics when the whole thing is finished... How does it look so far???? I dont think that once the dash is on i will take it off again unless an emergency or maybe il paint it once a year just for a change.. lol

Looks like you might have neons in the footwells too? You should cut off that ciggy adapter and hardwire it somewhere with a switch.. I, and i'm sure others too, have done this and it looks neater..
Looking good though.. I hope that the silver won't reflect off the windscreen on bright days. However if it does, get some poloroid sunnies as it cuts the glare out really well.. AP

yer im going to get a splitter and split the 1 lighter into 3. that way i can run one more set in the footwell under the glovebox and steeringweel and also run a set to the back for the rear seat footwell area.. Its going to be tough mounting them where i want but il manage some how.. as per reflection, nar it dont glare that much, but sunnys on sunny days help anywho.
Oh those are sound activated LED's not neons,, neons r gay lol

yeh i have a 89 sp(bg), i have re-trimmed my dash in white vinyl,and i do get quite a bit of glare when sun is out.i also use sunny's.

i did myn matt silver and the glare was terrible hate to see what a glossy silver would be like...i repainted it a dark grey it sort of fixed the problem....wish i had not done it now

mine is a satin silver.. so picture like looking at silk silver in the sun... lol but i put a clear coat on it and it reduced the glare a little bit
 its not that shiny
