My New Plans

Well here they are!
*Freshened Up BP n/a is going into the Astina (10,000kms old with new bearings, rings, honed the bore, head gasket, has had a full head service not even 2 months ago, valve guide, seals all replaced, head shaved, new lifters and extractors) to be put into my car
*DBA Silver Disc's up front and new pads!
*Once that is complete - my old engine is going into storage while i search for some turbo goodies over the next few months. Looking at maybe a VF10 hybrid, but would probably go for a VJ20. I am going to test fit it all on the old n/a then fit it to the one in my car. I have found out what needs to be done and seems pretty straight forward - just need to find the parts! And yes i know, I am going to use the N/A. It wont be running high boost because of the compression but should still produce decent power - plus the head and TB is better flowing then the BPT!
*Once that's all covered - she's getting fixed up for a respray. Which that will be done hopefully start of next year i say!

Tell me what ya think!

Indeed it is alot of fiddling around - I know you reckon i should go straight for a gtx halfcut newman but i will do it this way! This plan might take a fair while to get done, I have to focus on get photography gear a bit!

I will post updates though :P

The only reason I am going for this option is because this way - I can test fit it all on my old engine and figure out what i will need if something is missing instead of having the car off the road for a few weeks!

Also, I have been talking to one of the guys from fl.com who has carried out the exact same project and he has given me a few tips. At the moment he is running a VF10 on his day in and out with 155kw's! No bad. Apparently there are nice gains with the head and throttle body off the n/a because there arent any restrictions like the turbo model!

I have sourced a BPT Manifold and VJ20 but I am unsure whether I will just go straight to the VF10.

btw, how much does it cost these days to get a full 3" exhaust and dump made up? I was thinking just under $1,000 but i might be wrong!

yep sounds good to me! what are you doing for ecu??? generally its cheaper to buy the gtx engine, and you will find the car will probably off the road sorting out things with your custom set up. that being said this is the perfect way to go if you want to build it hardcore

Well i still have to work out a few things like whether i need a different loom - only because i have been told that the idle control and tps are different on the n/a. I will be running the GTX ecu and have her on stock boost for the time being (if all goes ahead!).

Yeah I wish i could afford to build her hardcore! I got some other more important things to save up for so this is unfortunately 2nd on the list! The good thing is I will have this extra engine sitting around to test fit everything so i can take my time! Once thats all good and well, swap everything over and hopefully boost down the street

Well, women do get in the way of all our projects don't they! I have launched the 'dru single' campaign so that problem has been solved for this year!

Latest Update! I just scored:
- VJ20
- 3" Dump Pipe
- BPT Exhaust Manifold
- BPT AFM
- Maybe a GTX intercooler and piping, but should i just go front mount straight away?

yeah - the only problem is the money issue. I know a front mount would be a better option but i am scoring this setup for less then $100....going from that to 600 would be a killer for me at the moment. I will only be running stock boost for ages too.

If you can nab the whole std setup for under $100 go for it.
If it falls throught I got the pipe setup less the GTX I/C but with a HKS
panel filter in a standard airbox looking for around that mark.

About your first post. Dont shave the head it will make the compression worse.
Also your remark about the headflow its true but do you know why the restriction
is there in the GTX & GTR engines. Its to help low end swirl of the air and fuel so
unless you are building an engine that requires the increased flow your actually
missing out on that benefit. I am not saying you need a BPT head just your use of
the term better head needs to be put in context.

Nice - I might be interested in the piping and airbox you have. Currently i have most the piping but might be missing a few peices. I will let you know!

DBA Silvers will be purchased this week, then some Lucas Pads in two weeks time (after reading the brake pad thread ...and talking to rob ) I may have found some GTX injectors and I am no longer in search for a GTX ECU or AFM, tax man will be helping me pay for a MT LT-10s.

Engine hasn't been purchased yet, i have been told it will be coming out after the long weekend!
