FS-DE or FS-ZE?
Hi guys,
My current FS-DE is closing in on 250,000kms and while it's running tip top at the moment it's obviously closing in on the end of it's life. I can't afford to be without a car for any length of time so I'm looking at buying an engine and swapping it in. I've been looking into the FS-ZE and it looks like I can get one landed for around $1300, but I'm not sure what the swap involves. Is it plug and play with the FS-DE ecu or will I have to find a ZE ecu? The other option of course is just to swap in another DE from a wreckers that has relatively low km's. Does anyone know what one would be worth roughly? Cheers! |

ZE will swap straight in.
New water pump + new belts.

Big difference over the stock DE? The ZE seems like the logical way to go. I'd give the motor a full overhaul before it went in, belts, pump, seals + gaskets ect. (:

Ive been running a ZE in my car for the last 20mths, hasnt missed a beat (although my ZE only had 63k when shipped over) and it runs fine on the DE ECU
Motor, swap-over & parts will set you back around $2.5-3k, but IMO is money well spent.

Sweet! I'd be doing the swap myself so that should save me some cash. Much of a performance gain?

With good headers, exhaust, intake you net maybe 110 at the wheels. IIRC Marc put down 130hp?
I definitley think its worth while.

Considering I want to put in a newer engine anyway I think it's a no brainer to go with the ZE. How much did you pay for the engine Marc if you don't mind me asking?

We got them cheapish as a friend imported them all at once.
I paid ~1400 I think and that easily covered it.

There's a couple on the Japan auctions that'd be under $1200 landed in Melb via container, to give you an idea.

They are NOT easy to get a hold of, actually for a standard engine they are one of the more elusive ones. its not like ringing up jap imports and asking for a 4AGE, GZE or SR20DET, for some reason there isn't that many around.

Easy to get from Japan - there's always a few at any given time
