OR... would one of these universal kits work?

http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product...oducts_id=3075

Would still need a few other things of course...

Anyone have any idea what kind of engine I would have? (1997 BA 1.8L manual hatch).. or where I could find that info?

Thanks in advance

You've got 1.8 BP 4 cyl.

A kit like that'd work, except you wouldn't really need that adapter on the right as you'd be going stright up into the bottom of the box

But the meshed bit on the right could be painted easily enough, if you even need to use it. Looks a bit restrictive to me.

Just by looking at simota setup, I can see why people say it's easy to buy and install DIY kits.... It looks nothing more than just plumber piping...

Even though I never look under the bonet, I still want it to look presentable (say when I go to change the oil or top up the windscreen wiper reservoir )

Anyone know any other websites that may have similar CAI products?

I did find this US website... I fear I'm just going to flood this post with what I find until someone says 'buy that one'...

http://www.autopartsauthority.com/sp...takeparts.html

All prices are US.. just scroll to the bottom.

You could even use the solid drainage piping, with a few angles and some straight pipe. Spray it black and it'd look factory - apart from being 90mm wide!

That Simota kit is what I had plumbed up from my front bar with the v6 its a helluva lot different to plumbing pipe
Its layered and reinforced rubber which is flexible
the inside wont change diameter when you bend it
Instead of the meshed tip I used a reverse rolled exhaust tip slotted through the bumper
Looked sick, sucked like a hooker and at when rolling you get o2 injection
I loved it

No test vehicle to model CAI from, so I guess it is cold at the moment.

Anyone know of any USA dealers that would sell CAI systems for my mazda (97 Astina 1.8L hatch)?

OR... is there another car I could base the intake from.. Just browsing around the USA sites, there doesn't seem to be a 323 past 1996, could I buy an intake for the protoge or 1996 323, or other mazda car, which would fit mine?

I have found a kit for Mazda 323 Lantis 96...

http://www.autopure.com/AluIntakeKit.htm

Item T21628 (middle of the screen)

I don't know why you don't just get the Simota kit.

There'll be nothing really for the Astina in the US in regards to a CAI, as they didn't get it there - only the Protege.

I (think) I'd be okay with that, but I have some other rev head friends who say ".. don't get it.." I'm told I may encounter a whole bunch of issues if it doesn't fit, and it would not sound as good as a proper CAI system.. So I don't know what to do..

I must've not read this reply. That sounds like a good idea - and I can see why you're suggesting the simota kit now..

Thanks

i doubt it'll ever go ahead too. there isnt the demand for it for how we'd like to do it - aka in aluminium. to get any decent manufacturing costs with a piece that looks nice (ie no joins, as few separate pieces as possible) we'd need 10 pretty much confirmed buyers and the price would still be up in the mid 300's. i could easily whip up a mild steel piece for under $200, but it 1) wont look nice - ie joins welded (done with mig but looks very similar to tig) and 2) wont be the lightest thing on earth
