I have heard of BA owners of changing there stock ECU's for jap-spec ones for more power, just wondering if that could be the same for the BJ's??

ryan has a jap-spec ecu in his BA, bumps it up to 98kw if I remember correctly.

Oh and talk to rupe to see if any are in the auctions

I don't know, but i'd hazard a guess the answer would be no. The jdm ecu (if it in fact even was a plugin swap for the au ecu - which in itself is doubtful) is not the only reason the FS-ZE makes more power than the DE - the ZE has higher compression (hence why jdm pistons are sold everywhere), and a vastly superior intake manifold (arguably the number 1 Achilles heal in the the australian and us delivered cars), as well as more than a handful of other small changes.

in the ba, it can be done, cos the only major difference between the au and jdm is the ecu. as the bp-de and bp-ze have same cams, compression etc.

but a fs-de and fs-ze have different cams, compression etc. changing the ecu may have the opposite effect.

fs-de 9.7:1, fs-ze 10.4:1, ms fs-ze 10.7:1

and the cams range from 233 to 241 duration.

as greg said, the differences will not allow you to do only a ecu change.

as for ba, it does work, but on in hot ald weather.

-jdm-
tuned for 100ron.
100kW at 7000rpm
max torque at 4500rpm

-aus-
tuned for 91ron
92kW at 6000rpm
max torque at 4000rpm

as least thats what the spec sheet says.

long story, but the ecu didn't like the warm qld air. i never tried a cai which i should have 1st before selling.

have to rev the nuts out of the engine to get the extra 8kW. and the torque band was moved up 500rpm, making it a pig to drive down low rpm. the hot air didn't help with that i guess.

i brought it from a lantis that was in a wreckers near goldy. $150. i honestly didn't feel the gains. above 5500rpm i did. but that was for the 0.5sec until it hit 7000rpm.

had to run 98ron fuel. bigger $$$ for minimal gains. and using 98ron instead of 100ron i'm guessing didn't help either.

The BA JDM ECU will give a little more power but it also includes a knock sensor which will give you some flexability when it comes to fuel and/or low levels of boost.
As for the BJ ECU i've never had motivation to look into it.

Short answer yes.
Long answer yes too, but lots of little differences.

DIY will save you $150 and get the same effect, unless you're in it for some engine bling.

pfft bling... go to bunning get some pvc pipe in the diameter that suits you, get some elbows in angle you need, step up/down (same thing lol) adaptors for the AFM/Throttle/filter if you choose to get ridiculusly big piping, some paint (black preferably) and some heatwrap. pvc is smooth internaly, it is cheap, and the heatwrap (for exhausts) will keep the inside noice and cold compared to the bay ambient temp.. shiny doesnt mean better
alternatively, get some intercooler piping and silicone joints and make a more expensive DIY blingy CAI
just my 2c

perfect, less than $100 including filter and it'll take you an arvo to knock over.

Just a clarification, the australian delivered car has identical cams to the JDM motor....our FSDE is far closer to the FSZE than any other FSDE delivered world wide, but it still misses the good IM, high compression, and RPM.
