ah HA! seems like everyones is the same as mine! if its a cold mornining it will work on startup for 5-10 mins, maybe less, then not work, turnign off the button for 2-3 minutes and then trying again gets approx 5 mins of cold air. then same problem. when its hot it works for 2 mins then stops working... HELP! ive noticed that when you press the AC button the compressor wont start, (i.e. it doesnt feel like the car is going to stall for a split second) but the sound/engine speed adjusts as if everything is working fine. its pointless as is, because in that 5 mins its not working its a sweatbox. left it idling in the shade and got 15 mins on a winters day, measured around 6 degrees C from vents, its awesome when its going, its just like its on a 10% duty cycle haha...
any helps/tips would be awesome and seeing as mr fixit lives in moggill i might have to pay you a visit and if you can fix it will give you some $$

Find the receiver/dryer, the thing circled in the pic.

The receiver/dryer apart from it's main function has a pressure switch and a little round glass window. With the A/C compressor running have a look at the window and you'll see a stream of bubbles.... the more bubbles the less gas in the system. I'd expect to see lots of bubbles.

R134a systems always have bubbles in the sight glass
tc3 sounds like your gas is low i would have a look at it for you but i dont have a a/c machine at home to top up your system - iam sure could work out something for you at work to do it though.

Only some of the early kits had em in the receiver/drier as with R134a gas you dont use this method to check the gas level

How much do they cost?

New aircon for BA astina = ?

Second hand aircon for BA astina = ?

My aircon really stinks. Spraying it doesnt work. I guess the only way is to change the aircon?

i'd check the intake for rotten leaves etc that have fallen through and gotten stuck down there. otherwise cleaning companies can normally remove ANYTHING

aircon will be around $1100... i got it done in January (new compressor, rec/drier and a few o rings. helpful guy with a 24 month garentee...

that has nothing to do with the smell afaik. its a sealed system (sorta like a HWS at your house, it doesnt actually contact the chemicals/gas inside...) so its a fan problem - id have to imagine that it would smell with the fan on? if not perhaps theres an airfilter for teh air going into the aircon system... maybe worth a look?

Tried only with the fan, smells a lil. If the A/C switch is on then the smell is a lot stronger. This smell doesnt occur everytime, sometimes it has no smell at all but sometimes the smell is strong. When the smell is strong, I'll switch off the A/C switch for a few minutes with only the fan on then turn the A/C on and this works. But it doesnt work all the time tho.

Go under the passengers side dash and remove the fan. Poke your hand up in the hole and have a feel for any rotting rubbish.
