you need a pressure gauge in order to check the regulator.
there`s a variety of test you can do on the reggy and fuel pump. and i think the bg pressurises the system with the ignition on but cuts out after 2 or 3 seconds unless you start the car  |

it will pressurise the system when on and will pump will the pressure is high enough...
easy to test... buy a pressure gauge, some hose and fittings (see below) if you have an aftermarket reg (malcrappy, sx racing, sard) hook it up to the 3 outlet on the reg to read pressure otherwise use a T connectors to hook it up between the fuel pressure reg and the fuel return line hope this helps... good luck

You can hear the fuel pump relay click when your turn the ignition to "ON".
I can hear my pump prime the system when I start mine RElay should be in the main engine bay fuse box IIRC

Bad ground? Obviously short circuiting somewhere. Any other fuses/relays go

i thought Bg only pressurised the system when cranking. I can hear a click when i turn the ignition on, but thats the injector relay inthe engine bay. the fuel pump relay is situated next to the computer behind the radio. im not sure whether its a relay or just a switch, it seems to energise the fuel pump only when I crank.is that correct, or is the circuit not working properly? thanks

if you de-pressurise the system (for maintenance or repairs for example) then turn the ignition on without starting you should hear the pump working until it pressurises the system again.
the reason you only hear a click is coz it`s already pressurised. |

hey Geetee,
i can never hear the fuel pump working with ignition on. Ive been have a bit of starting problem when my car is cold and i noticed there was no fuel pressure in fuel rail when it has been parked for 4-5 hours!! where is that relay which runs the fuel pump? I had my gf to turn the ingition on and i had my ear next to the fuel lid and couldnt hear it running with ignition on in the morning... |

noy sure where the relay is but try the passenger side footwell, at the bottom of the "a" pillar. take the plastic trim off and it might be behind there.
i defo remember hearing the pump for about 2 seconds the last time i changed my fuel filter. apparently it switches on with the ignition and cuts out if the car isn`t cranked after 2 or 3 secs. |
