k&n 57i Inducion kit

I was just wondering if anyone in australia has got this kit for there BA Astina. I went to my local autobarn to ask about this kit for my car but they are gonna call me to tell me the price for the kit because they have to get it brought over from the states.
Does this kit make any difference in power and how much did you pay for it so I can compare the price for when they call me, so i know if there trying to rip me off

Any help would be appreciated,
Pato

I did CAI for under $20.

It's probably about time for another workshop day. All we need is a day and a venue.

I don't believe the BA was available in the states (outside the Protege).

Cosmo is correct... No the BA wasn't available in the states, so i wouldn't believe that it would be coming from there.

I have friends in germany and austria and they have them on there cars. they swear by them, but its like -30 degree sometimes there.

I looked at getting one for my car sent over here, $208.00. No way. I like the $20 job done elsewhere.

$200 odd for a good CAI is a bargain compared to the prices the BJ brigade have to pay ($200-500usd!).

are u serious ?

definitely not worth the money, its just a pipe !
Even if the pipe WAS worth that much the small power gain wouldnt justify it.

I agree for the workshop day. With the sun coming out on the weekends now it sounds like a good idea, and I've got some thing I wouldnt mind a spare pair of hands for
*looks at turbo-in-box*

I paid $110 for 57i for a BG from Autobarn... I wouldn't have thought it'd be too much more for a BA.

The development for the 57i K&N kit was done on my car last March (it's my engine bay in the instructions!! - in the UK anyway ):

I had to re-install the OEM intake system (remove front bumper etc, re-install resonator box and pipe etc - thanks to Shaggy for the help) so that they could compare the standard system with their open air filter and their enclosed Apollo Universal 'kit'.

Here are the results:

Standard intake vs 57i kit (BHP at the wheels)

Standard vs 57i kit (Torque at the wheels)

Standard vs Apollo kit (BHP at the wheels)

The guy at K&N and I were dicussing the effects of changing the lengths of the intake tract on performance. I'm sure this is to do with pulse tuning and standing waves set up by the valves opening and closing, similar to the exhaust pulse tuning theories. He said they sometimes put resonance chamers in to compensate for the change in length that some of their kits add - similar to those that the '94-'96 BA's have as standard. With this in mind I'm experimenting with the Apollo 'unsealed':

This shows where K&N terminated the DCAF pipe (it's also a known method within the 323F comunity):

Hope this helps

The sharp eyed among you may have noticed the figures on Torque dyno sheet - they seem a little high, I'd ignore them!

"I paid $110 for 57i for a BG from Autobarn... I wouldn't have thought it'd be too much more for a BA."

weak, cause i paid $89 for a panel filter replacement for the airbox, if i knew i could get the whole set up for $20 extra i would've paid it.

for the 57i system on a 1995 323 protege, would you have to take out the front bumber to remove the the front bumber to take out the filter box extensions that go down behind the front left indicator?

i was quoted $180 for the ba from rocket industries in brisbane but it will take 6 to 8 weeks by ship and if i wanted it a bit quicker by air it will take 2 to 3 weeks for an extra $60, bcoz they dont have any in stock in oz and it will have to get sent over from the usa.

I was quoted $160 + GST + $100 international shipping + $25 for local shipping.. this quote came from rocket industries too.. I found an ebay seller of the 57i for AU$250...

Anyone have any idea for local sellers, or where I could get it for that $110 mentioned above?

i would highly doubt if you could get it for $110 anymore mate. was a very good price then, but you'd be lucky to get it under $200 now.

if you are still interested in a Long-Ram Stainless Steel Intake system - I'll be happy to get one made up for you between $350 and $400 for the BA Astina - I have the test car and can get it made on site. not in sydney.

lol i cant believe people spend so much on cai! $350 to $400, you've gotta be joking!! i mean all u need is some random plastic tubing to do the job-the difference between that and 'special' stainless or whatever it is is so small you couldnt tell (if there is anything...), and if u really want a stainless one or something (for the silver look), there'd definently be a cheaper way to make it urslef than buying one... unless u have a spare $400 to throw away... lol

seriously, i dont know what sort of people pay that sort of money for it!!
if the price includes the filter as well then thats a bit more like it, but i dont agree with high price for tubing

you are confusing CAI with a long-ran intake system, that's why there is a big price difference.

one is only cheap plastic tubing from bumper to filter. the other is a complete replacement of all ribbed plastic piping (which slows air) to smooth metal piping and relocating the air filter.
