howsabout utilising the middle vents on the dash?
you could remove the vents, make up a trick fibreglass panel, and house the screen in there!!! 8) i reckon the standard twin din slots a bit low down for a screen anyway...... |

i can see where you are coming from jojo ... with the whole flush thing ... cityend is right he easiest way would be the single din flip outs ... but IMO they look ****** :P ... i like the flush idea... jaycar have on special this week a screen that would do the job nicely for $400 odd ... which i think would be a whole lot cheaper than a single din flip out... then all you need is an invertor (on sale at aldi today for $59) and with a little help from mister PS2 ... hey presto dvds in the car
** please dont hurt me

or if your smart enough, you'd bypass the inverter... and bypass the 220v input, whihc steps down to 15v from what i can make out ...

A carputer has been on my list of things to do for so long now that its not funny. Realistically the only thing holding me back is a power supply...
Somewhere ion that site a while ago I found a pic of a guy with a custom molded dash and a 15" touch screen in the centre consol - now thats an in car screen :-)

i think the car DVD/ screen players are still somewhat over priced
seeeing that ya can get a 15 inch LCD computer screen for $380! 5 inch screen for car $500, another ten inches? n its cheaper hehehe |

ive got my xbox ready and waiting to go into the car.
chip is in , hard drive is upgraded, software is loaded, all the mp3s from the car's old HD have been loaded and some more need to go on that never made it into the car. possibly abt 5000 tracks once I clean out some of the rubbish if I had time, i'd do it tonight. but i dont. but it should be installed by the weekend with a full writeup i expected soldering the chip to the m/b to be a lot harder than it was. my last chip install was a pain in the ass and this was supposed to be harder. first step is to get the bare minimum in and running, then I've got a 4x20 lcd to go in and the flush screen in the dash sounds like a good idea if only i could work out where to put the controller from my processor Last edited by Dogo; 21-02-2005 at 05:11 PM. |

I've been looking at combining one of these DC power supplies:
http://www.procase.com.tw/mainpage2003.htm with a nano-ITX motherboard: http://www.viaembedded.com/product/e...herboardId=221 It may be possible to put both in a single dim slot in the console, then put a foldout touchscreen above it for small but complete package. these nano itx boards aren't available to the general public yet, tho and it would probably cost the same as buying a laptop |
