Melbourne people?

Hello,
I'm a student from Worcester, Massachusetts, USA and I'm going to Melbourne for a few months. I'll be there from March 7 through May 16, and I'll be working for the Australian Bureau of Statistics in Melbourne. We have weekends and nights off, and 5 days from when we get there to when we have to be there, and 10 days after our project ends that we can do things other than the project we're working on. Anybody with suggestions? or any locals wanna show me and my friends around? Just remember that we won't have a car and our main form of transportation is the tram.

Welcome to AstinaGT and welcome to Melbourne. You chose a big weekend to arrive, F1 Grand Prix and the local 'Moomba' festival.
Depending on your number we may be able to organise some drive days, Healesville Sancturary (local Flora and Fauna), Torquay for the Bells Beach Surf festival.
Look here for other things of interest.

that is the one. a B&M short shifter for 96 protege.

what kind of things do you like doing?

how many people will be coming with you?

while you are down you can take a 45 min train ride south of the city then i can give you guys a tour of the mornington peninsuila and some decent beaches if the weather is still good.

looking forward to it! [/url]

hehe yeah looking at the page roddles supplied i highly recomend the victorian museum in the carlton gardens (1km out of the central buisness district of melbourne)

really good way to spend half a day, there are heaps of stuffed extinct australian animals as well and if you have a student or concession card entry is free!!!!!

cheers mike

handy tool to work out where you are going. i dunno what the odds of sourcing a melways (melbourne street directory) are in massachuses (spelt right?) but this will give you a good idea to start with

cheers mike

ok so now the plan we have right now is:

fly into melbourne march 7
fly to brisbane march 9
bus to surfer's paradise
stay there til the 13th
melbourne doing work and stuff until easter break
probably fitzroy (sp?) island over easter break
work until may 5
then we're either going to new zealand or cairns for like a week
should be a good time hopefully

why don't you fly melbourne to coolangata? is cheaper/quicker, as its just up the road from surfers....

you should try meet up with some of the brisbanites.... they are about 1 hour from surfers (give or take)

all sydney gets left out?? its ok.... i'll forgive you

we may be going to sydney, we're still not sure. one of the people i'm going with has a friend from home in sydney and she said we could stay at her place if we want, so we may go there.
