Australia Day Roadtrip - 25th January 2009
The Mission:
To get out of town during the Australia Day long weekend for a day and do something off-the-wall. Grasping the concept of the great Australian Roadtrip we're heading north from Canberra to feel the working class charms of Newcastle NSW. From an early start we'll slip up the highways past Sydney before taking the scenic coastal route through the small towns and suburbs on the Central Coast. The Destination: Going to a working class town like Newcastle means a working class lunch venue. The Dockyard is a new pub offing a good variety of food in the heavily redeveloped former docks of Newcastle Harbour. The website http://www.thedockyard.com.au will give you an idea of the venue. From a relaxed lunch we'll tour the coastal scenery around the lighthase for photos before calling the mission complete. The Return: As the afternoon winds down we'll return to the ACT taking the most expedient route. THE HARD DATA: Starting Point: The Caltex Service Station on Lanyon Drive Queanbeyan. Chosen because a full tank of fuel will be a great way to start the day Destination: "The Dockyard" No. 13/1 Honeysuckle Drive, Newcastle NSW Program it into your GPS so you're not going to get lost! The Route: Check it out on Google Maps Click Here! * Yes we'll use the M7 Tollroad Inbrief! Total Distance for the day: About 900km Total Drive Time Each way: About 5 hours DATE: Sunday 25th January! Start Time: 7:30am (Meet from 7:15am) Breakfast: Marulan about 90 minutes out of Canberra Coffee/Comfort: Wyong Twin Servos just North of Sydney around 2 hours after Marulan Lunch: Approximately 1pm The goal is to be back in Canberra by Midnight, but actual departure time from Newcastle is up to the individual. So are you feeling the Driving itch? NOTE: All the roads will be travelled at the traffic pace or the Speed limit - whichever is more appropriate. It's Double-Demerits so there will be no speeding on my part! If you wish to Tag on at any point just PM for a contact number, and post here with any questions!

Sydney Stop added:
Based on Thornleigh Maccas being about 300km from our start point and the fact we'll have one stop at least before getting there I would say 10:45 to 11amish at thornleigh Maccas. Just PM Me a Mobile number and I'll make sure you get a warning as we're approaching (from the start of the M7 for example should give you something like 20-30 minutes notice) A.
