My experience with Mazda parts department.

Well they had 1 of the 3 items I was after....

Basically went to pick up touch up paint, a temperature sensor that plugs into thermostat housing and get a new o-ring for where oil is leaking out past my distributer.

They had a temp sensor but it was $200 and didn't look remotely like the coroded replugged in thing that is on my car now. Now has anyone else had to replace this, and is there a cheeper way out? So I didn't get this yet.

They didn't have touch up paint, but then thats ok cause noone seems to They gave me a contact number for me to get elsewhere :s

And finaly the o-ring... Mazda parts dont have, cause they don't replace them apparently. I have visions of Mazda head office standing around with their hands over their ears going "lalalala, its not leaking oil" I mean wtf, why wouldnt a seal need replacing... So for that I have to talk to some distributer rebuilder to get fixed.

Aaargh, why can't it be easy.

they didn't have 1.6l fan belts on the shelf - or 4 cyl oil filters either - this i found shocking... nor were the belts in the country... i went to ford (again) bonuses of having code share

I've never had any trouble getting any part from Mazda. Yes some parts can be a little exe. A few years back I bought a steering arm for a '67 1500 sedan. It was about $80

Sometimes it is as much about your attitude as it is about them being willing to go that little extra to find that $2 O-ring.

I just swap between mazda and ford. 90% of the time one or the other will be at least 30-50% cheaper for parts. Any car that has had a ford/mazda sister car will usually be like this. For example Telstar/626 temp senders, Mazda ~ $20 Ford ~ $45!

mazda/ford departments give me the pips!

okay when i was searching for my sway bar arm link (yes there is a better term to use and i did use it when explaining to these ppl...just forgotten it now....;P) a) the guy at hornsby mazda could only surmize that i wanted not only the link but the other link and the WHOLE swaybar itself, soooo i gave up on him b) ford hornsby - had no idea what i was talking about then went away and asked a supervisor and came bak with some ridiculous price for one sway bar link arm c) mazda at west gosford - the guy interupted me in the middle of my explanation speel to say he knew exactly what i wanted JUST the link and gave me a very reasonable price! So, the motto to this story a) some ppl shouldn't be working in spare parts departments bcos they're dumbasses and b) it pays to shop around!

afaik there are 2 seals stopping the oil from leaking, one of those is larger diameter and cost me about $17 (fair enough so far) the one that was causing the problem (for me) is smaller and Mazda said they dont replace them under service/warrenty therfore they dont sell the part.

There probably aren't any larger seal in Aus now cause they shipped the last one to me

i have never had a problem with grand prix mazda at aspley... they have over nighted me all this from melbourne at different times:

1: A new dipstick cause this dipstick didnt put the original one back in the hole
2: A new jack shaft ... first on to break in australia :P
3: Touch up paint
4: SP23 badge

I bought my O - ring from pine rivers bearings and seals ... they are awesome ... $2 and they spent ages making sure i got hte right one!

but mazda ... no worries mate!

And then you found out it's an assembly which cost $350ish? At least it comes colour coded.

yeah mirror is the only replaceable part on them ones...

well went in finally to get my belts... working on theory they should have been in stock...

was a golden day i thought!!! guys punched in the rego, got the VIN, got the exact part number, had a look, turns out they are in stock today... guy looks at pricing to let me know before he hits the warehouse... swears to himself when he reads the price should be $75 for the PS/AC belt, and $50 for the Alternator/water pump belt...

so he plunks away, finds the specs, and goes ahh much better, be back in a second, grabs 2 new vee belts ... one was 1mm bigger, and the other 2mm shorter, and at $10 and $11 a much better proposition... oh and i got some red zoom zoom stickers, coz i thought they were tops, commented that they now have pens, and got one for free!!!

vic down at Gosford Mazda is a ****ing gun!

yeah it is the guy that helped you out... its north gosford... the ford stealership is in west gosford, who for the record wanted more for the vee belts...

but ford is still cheaper for genuine filters

and the world isn't half bad, its all bad!
