BA Gearbox conversion: F -> G series?
i'm sure there was a topic about this, but i can't for the life of me find it.
Ok, after removing all the teeth off 3rd gear in my 2nd F-series box, i want to upgrade the G-series. What do i need? i vaguely remember needing this: G-Series gearbox (obviously :P) G-series pressure plate (as the splines are diffferent) what about driveshafts? hubs? gearbox mounts?

I know you'll need the top mount (that was how Orical was identifying the F from the G).
If you were to get it from somewhere like Allmaz they would probably include the mounts with the box, if you asked realy nicely. As for the shafts? I don't know but I'm sure you could have them remade with the G series splines.

I really hate sounding like a dunce (nah I love it) but whats the diff between the F and G series box as Im unhappy with my stocker and looking for a more bulletproof version to hopefully track down an LSD for (if it exists)

Right o, you need.
Gearbox (obviously) Top mount Front mount Clutch slave cyl Clutch line that runs over the gearbox Flywheel Clutch Passenger side drive shaft (CV) Intermediate shaft Drivers side shaft (CV) From what I can remember, that's it.

crap - that much!
oh well, better off doing that than getting another f-series i might try and find a written off BG SP and just buy the whole car! probably cheaper... boostedbatman, the f series is a smaller gearbox from 1.6 sohc 323s and post 95 1.8 astinas. Check out some of the threads on fordlaser.com where they've discussed in leght the mods you can make to them to make them stronger/.

interestingly, the SP20 uses a G series box, while all the other BJs use a F series
well according to one parts reseller, anyway btw a SP20 box is almost 3k!

Oh yeah,
I forgot about the intermediate shaft. That is a must as the diffs are in a slightly different place.

I'm doing the exact same thing Nate, but I'm taking what ever i can get, be it laser or 323. I really need just the box, so if I do find an SP really cheap, I'll let you know. Rupe, you can have the rest of the driveline stuff if I find one, wouldn't mind cv's and stuff as spare, but you need em more than me.

Rob,
Wasn't there somebody of fordlaser that tried the SP20 box and it busted just as quick or was it Dan that told me ?? Dan Jim has a GTX flywheel you can use sure he will sell it cheap it fits fine inside the G Series box & clutch does not foul against anything. I am almost there have Gbox, slave cylinder, GTX flywheel just need mounts and new clutch. Mal

Here we go guys.
Now I have no problem with this being brought back up, because if anyone is interested in that group buy, I will be. I'm going to start some research on what the ratings are on this diff too.
