WTB: [NSW] Help needed in buying a SP20

Hi all,

First time poster here, please be gentle hehe

To cut a long story short, I'm in the market for a auto SP20. I've exhausted all means that I know of for searching for one i.e. car search engines, calling dealers I know of and even auction places. Twice I came so close to getting the SP20 that I want and both times I listened to my dad and suffered (Another story altogether lol)!! So now I'm looking to Mazda forums. I'm getting pretty desperate coz they seem so rare in NSW.

I'm hoping someone on this forum is selling an auto SP20 or is considering it? My preference is for one that is low k's, yellow or blue and is 2002 or 2003 model. But hey beggers can't be choosers so any ideas or input greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys! Hope to meet some of you guys in the near future if and when I finally get a SP20.

P.S. For those people from fordlaser.com.au who post here, I've given up on the laser. I'm now smitten about the SP20 and have increased my budget accordingly (yet another story) hehe

oh yeah there was a point to asking that

most credit unions have a car buying service - tell them what you want they will find it for you and at a good price... if you have a trade they also arrange a really good price on that too!

Thanks for the suggestion. My mum is actually a member of her works social club and one of the benefits is free use of this car searching service. I actually gave it a try when I was looking for a corolla but they never got back to me?!

But I think I'll try that again as I'm pretty keen on getting a SP20 asap!

I've looked at every car search engine and pretty much daily and there are a few here and there but a lot of them are manual AND in a color I don't like, plus most of them have about 40-60k's but i want something with very low k's if I'm going to be paying more then 20k.

I know I'm being picky here, but even though I really like this car, I want to get it in the color I really like

Considering the youngest SP20 is going to be around 13-14 months old (hey thats my car!! ) getting really low k's will take a while to find.. about 6-8 months ago when I was doing a bit of a price check there was only about 2-3 out of around 20ish that were under 20,000 k's

i would be more worried about a good service hisorty and who owned the car rather than the k's ... obviously you want to find as little as possible ... but 50 000 hwy / granny k's is going to be better than 50 000 twilightprotege ks :P sorry mate i had to say it

^^^ agreed. Being able to talk to the mechanic who services the car or at least looking at the service history can be damn important. 15,000 k's doesn't matter if it's the 2nd engine because the driver blew the last one! I was just checking out an XC falcon with a rebuilt 351 clevo in it. Only had 2,500 k's on the engine, but it was already showing signs that the engine was doing a fair bit of work (too much).

All very good suggestions guys.

-Braxta-, I have checked out redbook.com.au and several other valuation websites and whilst many of them agree with the prices I see at the dealers I know that there are ones out there which are cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestion on the low k's. I definately am also looking at good service history books. But I guess when I spend this kinda money I expect low k's especially since a new mazda 3 would cost abt $26k with on road costs etc....

Just an observation but I'm surprised at how many sp20's are owned by elderly couples.

On another note, there was a sp20 I saw at an auction which was sold for a 22600 to a dealer, now the dealer is selling the car at $26990!! Thats a major rort if I ever saw one! We went to the dealer today and asked if we could do a trade in. They offered 3500 for our honda accord and were willing to sell the mazda at 23500. They are really bringing in the $$$$ on this one.
