Safe to buy a gaming laptop off ebay?

Hi guys,

Just wondering, is it too good to be true, that on ebay, some powersellers are offering

the asus G73Jh gaming laptop, with ati radeon hd 5870. last years model i think b4 the gtx 460m came in.

For about 1300 to 1700 dollars in various hard drive and ram specs.

Is it safe buying a new (as they say) gaming laptop off ebay?

anyone had any experiences? faults or worse, no delivery of the product at all?

As a personal rule of thumb, I don't buy anything electronic off eBay because you just can't be 100% sure about it.

In saying that, my folks bought a (Korean) security camera system for their front gate off eBay and it seems to be working a treat.

It's a bit hard to tell sometimes, but if they are advertising it as a brand new gaming laptop, and it comes to you as an original IBM laptop, then it's quite easy to argue your case with eBay

Agree at least if its not delivered you get your money back,

is it in australia or overseas ? the one u wanna buy .

Ive brought a fair bit of stuff from ebay and overseas ebay, example a pioneer mixer, cost me $1200 delivered about a year ago, and still working fine, and they still sell the mixer now for $1850 - big difference, but should be fine, unless it sounds dodgy.

got a ebay link of what you wanna buy ?

Let's be honset as well. Any serious gamer doesn't game on a laptop. That being said, I do. Depends what you're going for. The gfx card that you stated won't run all the latest and greatest at full settings... But for moderate gaming you'd be sweet.
Laptops are always more expensive. A proper desktop setup IMO would be best.

On topic: paypal and if the worst should happen report within 45 days and you're sweet

With the notebook being Asus you may want to check if that model was officially imported by Asus or was a grey import as they deal with warranty items differently.
Some of the G series laptops have had a few cooling issues to do with heatsinks/fans.
But overall im very impressed with the reliability of Asus notebooks, from memory we have had one faulty one out of hundreds I have sold in the last few years.

For that money you could build a gaming desktop and buy a ho-hum laptop.

That's amazing for only $900.
One of my old friends spent $3000 on his desktop computer (about a year ago) for all the high end stuff and his CPU couldn't even handle more than 100 blocks of TNT on Minecraft
I laughed even more when he had major video lag trying to play OF: Dragon Rising. It was supposed to be able to play Crysis on Insane graphics as well haha

Ad lies in the title. 2.93ghz is when the CPU is self over clocking. It's actually 1.73ghz. :/
The ati card is good. But it's still a LAPTOP. Mobile graphics is like apples and oranges.
I have a few models up on that card in my laptop and a faster processor, and it performs well. I can't quantify the difference.
Wait I can, 3dmark gives my laptop a 18371, yours a 13667.
Don't get me wrong, it's great for the price you've found.
But then again, with that budget on a DESKTOP computer, you'd blow that laptop out if the water and have change for a cheeseburger...
