I looked into this before. The only time it becomes an issue is when there's 100% submersion of the intake (pipe / pod etc) into water. At any other time, the vacuum will only pull in air around it, and trace amounts of water.

apparently it wasn't if you were doing 100km/h in 1 foot of water.

Note I said "IF"

Hey I'm not that stupid. I've done some stupid things - hold a BP on it's revlimiter at 110km/h for 3 mins

but if you ever see Peck hour F6 or F3 - the two main freeways between Wollogong and Newcastle going to sydney.
When it's raining silly and there is FOG.
I saw BMW end up on it's roof into sandstone.

He passed me earlier I was doing about 60km/h. He passed me like I was standing still.

Like I said common sense needs to be applied.

I've seen alot of people do silly things.

Like some people may remember in sydney the woman ontop of her CRV at Bexly north. Well I was there watching it. My mates place over looks it.

Silly people who don't use common sense do things like that Drive into water 3 feet high or in that case 5 feet high. They also buy CRV's usual sign of a bad driver.
But she wasn't the only idiot. I'd like to say it's only recent imigrants who are that stupid but it's amazing how many thought they might try it out. like Fool in his Landcrusier - Said to the officer but it's 4WD. My mate Yell out, 'ITS NOT A TANK" He was lucky the TV stations' hadn't arrived yet.

I'd love to move to place where Common sense and thought into the way people think let alone drive. EG move into the left lane before you get to the street you want to turn left into. Not 10 meters.

Anyone know of such a place - other then Tasmania.

Next time I'm due to change the air filter (not for a year at least), would I be better off getting a K&N panel filter, or a pod?

I have a CAI, if that makes a difference to the two...

if you get a pod and want to keep it legal make sure you place it in a sealed box
i dunno bout whats better but, my guess would b a pannel if you have the standard box there allready

another question that's surely been covered, just a yes or a no guys.
i did the CAI (keeping the stock air filter)
i was considering removing the stock filter itself how ever leaving the box and putting a pod filter at the bottom of the car (behind the bumper). Will that be ok if the air is filtered straight from outside andhad a nice 1 meter trip to the engine through the piping. if anyone gets what i mean :S

not real point leaving the airbox in if you run a CAI and pod to the front bumper, it'll only slow the airdown and create more turbulence

Better off with a good panel filter and CAI anyway. Good for an extra Kw or two on the dyno (as proven by Nate many years ago)

this is what i was talking bout many months ago
ok well not EXACLTY that one as this one is a cheapy, but that design so its still legal and its a pod filter so you have a "slightly" bigger breathing area with this design u just stick a flexy pipe on the open end and rin it where ever you want.

i look at that filter and part of me, wait, no all of me, screams dodge

don't forget your peter brock fuel magnetiser and the ebay electric turbo to go with it, otherwise you only get 20kw at the wheels

HAHAHA
alls im sayin is that this would b a very cheap way of doing a CAI cus the opening is round just ready for a pipe to be clamped on. one i saw a few months ago was CF with a removable/washable filter and came with hoses, and a bracket, but it was for a jazz... yes i know LOL
wouldnt of been too hard to adopt but, n sure was puuurty
