noooooo!!!!

you have to clean it with a suitable filter fix oil, depending on the type of filter whether cloth, paper, or foam (nb paper can't be cleaned)

go to http://www.uniflow.com.au/why.asp

i'm not up to explaining it atm

Cloth filter Depends how bad it is, flush it with petrol (it is an oil filter) then a little soapy water to clean the fibers (they should be white) then apply a new coat of filter oil to bring it back to a nice healthy pink.

Paper filter Bang it on the ground a couple of times, see that it's still black and chuck it in the bin

Nah i know about oil air filters! just not K&N! I had an oil type in my suby and it totaly screwed the air flow meter! I replace air flow meters every week and laugh at all these people with oil air filters! They DESTROY the hotwire sensors causing the car to run rich and idle badly and have no power at all! So if u have a hotwire type sesor (just after the airfilter and before the throttle body i would NOT put a oil air filter in it at all! Every car i have driven with them goes like crap! Unless it only uses a map sensor which is ok! eg old efi Crapodores! Or carby crapers! Just replace the standard air filter every 10k!!! Hey whats $13!!!!! And how stuffed is a oil filter after 70k of cleaning! I cannot stress this point further!

I would post the buletin from subaru on this topic but for legal reasons i cant! Oh hotwire sensors work pretty much all in the same way! The wire glows red hot when the ignition is first turned on (self cleaning) But the oil used in these new filters does not burn off causing the sensor to fail!

k&n are the best filters available....so long as you look after it and only very lightly spray the oil on it you should never have any problems.

unifilter on the other hand when you soak them in oil and squeeze the oil out....just be very very careful

yeah subaru actually sold these at one time as genuine accessories...

why no more??? coz people over oil them!!! thats what causes that sensor failure, i over oiled mine once, and just had to soak the bottom of my MAF in a lil simple green solute... worked a treat... the thing with the subaru is that the MAF is directly after the filter... the mazda MAF is a little bit back.... just enough to not be a problem... my bro in law had this problem with his lib, but to fix it like i did was a litte bit harder!!!

petrol is fine, but the manufacturor method is turps (well the uni anyway)

unifilters arn't as durable when is comes to the cleaning process, esp if you neglect to do it when you should!!!

Yeah but its like saying to a kid, Would u like some milk with ur ovaltine?
Because so many people over oil them and its just not meant to be there in those kind of levels! Its just hard for the average joe to get it right! Ive just only had bad experiences with them thats all! Best of luck to u guys who get it right!
