You'll probably find they are the same boxes as in the Focus r something similar.

focus boxes have a different casing, but the G series internals will fit and vice versa (the pic hadn't loaded when i typed this!)

all the G series boxes (BG, BA, BJ) are internally different, unfortunately. just slight changes, like a different 5th gear setup, but it's enough to make mix-n-match a pain in the arse!

sad to here about your gearbox headaches, its a real shame that mazda never built a frontwheel drive gearbox that could handle your astronomical power figures, i have heard of turboed corrollas and hondas that can handle big power figures its a shame that mazda never got it right.

$9k on a Quaife sequential box doesn't sound so bad compared to $3k a pop each time otherwise on modded gearboxes... Also, $9k is a whole lot less than what you will lose selling your car and getting another money pit to start all over again. I guess it depends what you get out of your other than the expeirence of gearboxes.
Te be brutally honest, a custom car that you've made your own, is hard getting someone willing to put their money where their mouth is (offers are nothing until the money is in your hands). People are selling stock SP20s with low km's 2nd hand for under $20k, and then can turbo the car with one of your very own kits and get beefed internals for around $10k! So then they could have a safely turboed SP20 in a colour of their (limited) choice for under $30k. And they can still customise (assuming they want to) to an extent that they find desirable...
Do you get a smile on your face when you drive your car around just cruising? Oh well, that has nothing to do with your gearbox. I still smiled driving around the gay auto, but I couldn't get out of it what I wanted, and replaced it with a clone manual...
The choice is yours, all I can say is if you sell it, SELL ME YOUR INSTRUMENT BEZEL WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVES PLEASE!

Nate, your G series gearbox is supposed to be good for 275whp or thereabouts, you're in no danger of braking it any time soon. But maybe it's something to have done while the BPT conversion is happening down the track?

Doug has a daily 273kW atw yeah? And Bora has over 200kW atw also. You won't have 200kW atw any time soon kiddo, so I wouldn't be too concerend about it unless you think you're gonna go north of 150kW atw maybe...

nitriding stuff makes it strong but also very brittle... bad for gear boxes... number one is a heat release to make it a stable dense matter then usually cryogenically treating or shotpeening or both...lol

Why dont u get straight cut gears made up for 3rd gear since thats the weak link. It may be noisy but u dont cruise in it anyway. Thats the only way to get any real strenth through that gear. Notice the turbo box has a different diff set up than normal, but the main gears are still weak as. get an lsd diff and straight cut third gears and she should (hopfully) treat u as well as u treat her. Maybee time to upgrade man.

ezin: at nearly $1000 a gear for billet for our box and nearly $2K for a strong billet LSD its not worth doing unless you do everything...

what if i pay all that money:
$800 for standard box
$900 for 3rd gear in billet
$300 for rebuild and new bearings

and after all that something else lets go and spreads nice little shards of metal into our expensive goodies.... the diff is weak too and so are the synchros (i have killed boxes in different ways)

Took an Evo 8 for a drive today... maybe time to move on...

Just for interest sake....There is a compny in NZ making a straight cut 3rd syncromesh gear pair that's a direct bolt in for our boxes for around the $650NZD mark. Can find out more info for those interested...I'll be getting one next year some time.
